• I was talking to a friend the other day about an old Dawes touring frame I used to own, and realised I had no pictures of it anywhere which was a sad realisation. I've always been completely awful with a camera and generally documenting anything, so I thought I'd set this thread up in an attempt to spur me into taking more pictures of the bikes that come and go in my life.

Apologies in advance for the quality of the photos. I don't have a proper camera and have no idea how to take a good photo! This is a typical example of the awfulness I have on my phone – it's the only photo I have of my TT build process (and was only taken as my wife was out and asked if the dog was ok!

I'm also massively into metal, so I'll try and put some good tunes in this thread that I've been listening to whilst tinkering.

  • Edit: I have now been educated in the ways of photo embedding..

  • I'm also massively into metal, so I'll try and put some good tunes in this thread that I've been listening to whilst tinkering.

Build soundtracks are an idea I could get behind!

  • I’m not sure everyone’s going to enjoy Tech-Death Tuesdays, but we’ll give it a shot!

  • My bikes to date have always been super functional. Whilst some have come and go, I've always tried to keep a time trial bike for racing, road bike for racing and club runs, fixed commuter/winter trainer and rigid mtb dad biek.

More of those later, because the main project in this thread will be a Pretorius ti track frame I picked-up in really great condition that is going to be a fun, summer, semi-HHSB/semi-long summer miles bike. Essentially my first silly bike with a rad paint job!

Got a new Columbus Futura SL fork for it which I've heard good things about for half the price of Enve.

  • The headset is an old Tune one that won't go on the bike (will be for sellz 4 cheapz if anyone wants if).

All my bikes in the past have been pretty understated or stock paint and I've got a bare ti road frame, so for the new track frame I thought it would be fun to hand over to @privatepatterson and the boys at Cole Coatings for one of their 'house specials'. I think this 'house special' option is a pretty cool idea for people like me who aren't very artistic and have no set idea of what they want, but would like something cool.

Ian asked me for a few very high-level thoughts about things that make me happy so I passed those over to him. I mostly mentioned France, those beautiful hazy blue evening skies you get in the South as those have always been my favourite times on a bike. Chatting away with my wife and giving each other stick on the way back home after having put in some hard miles. I also mentioned aeroplanes (my eldest is completely obsessed with them and it's always a source of fun) and Scout, our dog.

  • Some of us will!

  • Dibs headset!

  • Damn ^
2nd if it’s not silly priced

  • sellz 4 cheapz

Yes! I feel a build happening around this headset

  • :’(
You know what this would look great on? My new frame I’m about to build

  • Though I was actually thinking of painting it blue so it would probably clash. I do love a Tune part though

  • Sorry the headset went by PM about a second after I posted! I’ll give you a shout if it falls through.

  • My wife's bikes will also make an appearance from time to time in this thread as her schedule ebbs and flows. She's had some great bikes over the years and her workhorse is a Genesis CdF - winter training bike/commuter. It was pretty stock when we bought it second hand, I think the 2014 iteration.

We then stripped the group and added a completely stock XT 1x mtb groupset to turn it into a pregnancy/town bike.

It has worked super well in this form and whilst the ratios look ridiculous for UK road riding, when you're 8 months pregnant with twins, apparently they're not so ridiculous!

  • Not sure on video embedding but that CDF looks incredible with the Jones bars!

  • Just post a youtube link, it auto embeds but not the mobile link.
If you're using iphone, hold picture for options then click copy. Then the image button on here and paste in the box

  • Ah cheers, that’s really helpful. Will test it out.

  • Pelago (medium size)

  • Pics work well, thanks.

Is it possible to embed a video from your phone? Doesn’t seem to auto embed when I post the mobile link.

  • remove the m. from the url so it's just http://www.youtube.com/

  • Hurray, thanks. Seem to have managed it now. This thread will now be unstoppable!

  • My wife also has a Pretorius Outeniqua disc which we built up after our first mini-otter arrived to get her back on the bike and finding those legs again. It's barely seen any miles though (other than on the Kickr) as she quickly went on to have another couple of mini-otters, but hopefully now they've arrived she'll be able to properly dial-in the fit and get some miles in.

We need to dial the fit in, chop the steerer, trim the insane amount of cable I for some reason left for the rear derailleur and swap the crankset out. I’m not mad on those Force chainsets. I'd like the etap all black chainset, or a Cannondale hologram for this. I think the touches of pink and the rims are enough for the bike without the overly busy Force chainset. I'll keep an eye out for a compact chainset and swap this out when I find one.

She had a Cervelo S5 as her race bike years ago, but got rid of that as it wasn't going to get any use for a number of years. I'd like to get another project going for her in the race bike area once she's back on form, but that's a way off and she wants to just get back to riding for enjoyment at the moment which is totally understandable.
