  • I have other fish to fry.

  • I hope they don't lose one of the 100 Bazalgette's lamp-posts along that stretch (they're individually numbered with 1 at the Eastern end and 100 next to Chelsea Yacht Club by the end of Lots Road).

    More info here: https://ragpickinghistory.co.uk/2012/05/22/representing-the-nation-the-thames-embankment-lamps/

(Reminded of this when running in past them this morning. Occasionally I use the numbers to see how far along that stretch I've got to go.)

  • I'd not really noticed them before, I mean I'd noticed them, but not just how nice they are or their numbering. Will check it out tonight. As the traffic is always backed up more on a Friday, i'll likely be riding along the shared use pavement anyway.

Looks like they will be losing at least one given the artists impression of the new park/viewing area..I'd have thought planners would have demanded they are kept in some form. Just got to wait 4 years to find out now....

  • Wonderful ride in and out of work today but very few acknowledgement's. Me on my rando with basket might just not be cool enough for the Sunday Club Run Spunk Trumpets.

  • Baskets always get a nod from me. #basketlyfe

  • Spunk Trumpets.

    Noted for the LFGSS lexicon.

  • My partner fixed my light, much glare today because the sun is back up and running.

Can't wait for the park nearby to be open again on the way back, they close the gates after sunset...which is pretty early.

  • Just had four wee scroats box me in on the way home, managed to have enough momentum to get through them and get out of the grip.

They fucked up and had the two biggest guys go round me with the smallest guy at the front to grab me.. fucking amatures

Was at the East part of Well Common, by the exit on to Church Crescent, watch going through Victoria Park etc.

I would have been so fucked, had everything in my backpack, time to rethink that!

  • That's less than ideal. Glad to hear you are (relatively) ok.
I take it that it was after dark?
It's on my commute as well.

  • Was about 5.30 so just after dark, a well lit part, though it was their lack of lights that gave me a bit of a warning.

I think I am going to bail round the park and take the roads until lighter evenings.

  • That's sound - I can see myself doing the same.
Mornings, I'm through there before 07:30 - I'd be surprised to encounter any aggro at that time of day.
    Go well.

  • Glad you got away. There's a Well Street Common User Group if you want to let them know:

    https://www.wellstreetcommon.co.uk/

They take things like this very seriously and can work with the local community or the police (as appropriate), especially if there's any indication that this recurs.

You can also raise it with the local ward councillors (Victoria or Wick).

  • worth setting up a crew and bait-biking the fuckers?
exploding backpack full of dogshit or something?

  • exploding backpack full of dogshit

    hahaha

  • We could all lie in the shadows in Ghillie suits and have adapted air rifles that fire frozen sausages

  • Went and did laps at Regents Park this morning between about 8am and 9am due to the recent road closure of the Olympic Loop Road.

Any tips on what are the best times to go and whether there's a sequence to the lights which would negate so much stop/starting?

  • Best time to go is before 7am, which is when the main gates are opened.

  • Plus1 for before 07:00. Another tip is go do Inner Circle, which is still in pristine condition after the resurfaving last year, but as that is so short you quickly feel like a hamster on a wheel and j defy anyone to do more than 15 minutes there.

Lights on Outer Circle are a massive pain but you have to bear them, also ride Outer Circle anti-clockwise then you only have a single junction to cope with at the south-east corner.

Almost forgot check out Regents Park Rouleurs who have a regular early session there.

  • Get in before 7am and jump on the back of the fastest group you can find. On Tuesdays it's basically a giant crit until 8am when the traffic picks up.

Alternatively they've resurfaced the inner circle so you can pump out some proper intervals without lights ruining things.

  • There's a 100km strava segment for the inner circle. It's the dumbest Strava segment I've ever seen.

  • Dogs shit and glitter, that would fuck the wee bastards

Emailed those folks @Oliver Schick , they responded straight away and were right nice.

  • Thanks for doing that. I was hoping that you would.

  • I quite enjoy the inner circle, particularly for its peacefulness. It highlights another failure of motor traffic, how bloody loud cars are.

If it is a choice between the inner circle and the turbs....

  • theres a hundred miler too. Gonna go for the KOM sometime this summer :)

  • I did 80km+ on the outer to knock off the festive 500 this year. This is my kind of segment
