Speedplay if you want the ease of double sided entry, and loads of unsprung float and can deal with some small faff of the cleats.
Shimano SPD SL if not. -

Not necessarily ultralight but I've got some Championsystems ones and they come up significantly higher than other brands.

Any recommendations for pedals for my roadie?
Do you have, and like, SPD on your other bikes? Do you prefer to do what you like, not what other people think you should do?

Nah. Just flats on my commuter. Did have mtb spds, but that then being up the issue of are road spds that much better?

There are pros and cons. Using MTB pedals on your road bike means you can actually walk into the café without going arse over tit, and you only need 5 pairs of shoes rather than the ten you need if you have two different kinds of clip-in pedals. On the other hand, some people like the way road pedals stop your foot from rolling if you have really terrible pedalling technique and think that it actually matters.

I felt like going from 2 sided SPD to Keo road pedals was a mistake, you miss the hook to clip in at lights every now and then which can be annoying.
I’ve settled on speedplays which I think are brilliant but they’re a right pain to walk with the cleats. -

SPD ftw

Do you shave your legs? Speedplay or whatever other road system pleases you.
Don't shave? Practical MTB system is the way - Shimano SPD / Time / Crank Bros etc.

Are these bars fucked? Brand new but the corners look really rough, rougher any bars I've ever seen.
Made a couple of GIFs because it's hard to see what's going on in a photo. Hopefully you can see how the surface is not at all smooth and uniform

You could learn to trackstand?

If they're alu I'd ride them no bother, but carbon and I'd get onto the manufacturer personally.

They're alu. PlanetX, I know their QC ain't great but they look crap. Like they've been welded up at the corners. Can't decide whether or not to return them.

Bike parts and carry-on luggage:
Will I be able to take a chain, chainring and cassette in my carry-on luggage for an international flight?

Unlikely.

No

It's just designed to not need a torque arm, without it the motor can stress the dropouts and even break them off.
Undo bolt, take black plate/block away, undo wire to motor, take out wheel, same in reverse to put back on.

Thanks. Yes. I played around and figured it out . Though didn't know the function of the blocks till you enlightened me.
