Yup. He was a really nice guy, his garage-workshop was jam packed with piles of parts, and frames cut ready for the next build. He still had the complete bakfiets with useless front suspension that had been listed on ebay, and a sidecar bicycle too. Apparently he’s made around 65 various iterations since retiring 5 years ago, showed me loads of photos on his tablet including recumbent trikes, cargo trikes, disabled-person-at-front cargo trikes...
Had I known he’d also made all these other styles I’d have asked for one of those instead. Will see how I get on with this though.

I have some spare spring bar things from cheap shoe trees, they are pretty solid, but maybe more difficult to mount. Will have to hunt for bed springs now!
@MCamb no idea on max load. The oldboy who made it was 11 stone and happily stood on the platform, and normally makes these with a wooden kiddy box like a bakfiets to transport kids in.
