Pulborough isn't a bad choice. The surrounding area is really lovely. The South Downs are stunning in summer and on a hot day still probably the most pleasant place I've ever been.
Train connections aren't all that, but it does go to Victoria iirc... I remember getting to the places like Brighton used to be a mission.
No idea what it is like now, but in the late 90s there wasn't a great deal to do round there other than recreation drugs.
Is there any reason you're looking for so many bedrooms? Or is that just what places with the land you want have? Have you considered buying some land and building your own house / garage with a flat on top?
