It was the lead story on Radio 4 news at 10 o’clock.

What a shocking and unpleasant surprise.

The cancer explains his non-appearances in recent editions of The News Quiz.

I saw him backstage after a gig last year and he was looking very slim - didn't think for a second he might be ill, though. Terribly sad, such a funny guy.

edit - it was a Kathryn Williams gig my mate was doing the photography for - he's just sent me a really nice photo of Jeremy and Kathryn.

He played in Walthamstow last year and I didn't go because it was £15 and I thought I'd wait and see him when it was cheaper.

I’m surprised how upset I am by this news. Met him a couple of times at events and he was just lovely and as funny as fuck. Such awful news.

feel sad about Hardy. was the funniest of all the old sat night live lot. and still did the best joke about Ireland ever. RIP you funny, gentle man

Despite it being all but confirmed this is still very sad. I'll be honest I didn't know of him before he signed for Cardiff but he seemed so happy to have signed. Was looking forward to seeing how he'd link up with Niasse once we'd loaned him. Its so tragic.

Also really sad about Jeremy Hardy. He was the very best thing about the news quiz. It won't be the same.

Oh no that is sad news, it's a great age and a great legacy but he will be missed!

Finney was brilliant as Arthur Seaton - great shots of the old Raleigh factory in that film.
