Slow upgrades to a cheap singlespeed (wheelset)

Posted on
  • Hi all,
Let me know if this would sit better on a different board.

Been going around town on a cheap secondhand Mango Bikes singlespeed for a few years now.
All in good nick - slowly upgrading before I start commuting on it in the spring.
I think the next step is wheels - they're the last remaining part with the tacky blue colour, also heavy and cheap looking.

Stressed myself out trying to find midrange road wheels - I was keen on Mavic Ellipse but don't think they'll take a freewheel.
Does anyone have any suggestions around that price (£350 RRP max for the pair)?
Or should I just go fixed gear and give myself more options...

    Cheers!

Misty pic from the other night:

  • Personally, I’d spend the £350 on a better second hand bike.

Keep the mango as your pub / shop bike.

  • Yeah, 350 will get you a pretty exciting second hand bike. Well, more exciting than a second hand mango anyway.

  • You could get a nice Langster, Tricross, Pre-Cursa, Pompino etc second hand for that money.

  • Cheers both, I'll start looking around. Don't have space for two so I might have to slow down with the minor upgrades on this one lol
