• Has anyone else ever felt the need to add some kind of support into their bar bag to help it keep its shape better and not wobble as much?

I just received an 8" diameter postal tube I ordered but it turns out that's 8" internal diameter so it's a smidge too big for my also 8" sweetroll so i'm going to cut an inch or so strip out along the length of it so it can compress down to fit.

part of the reason is I'm trying to get away with keeping my rim brake without the bag sitting on it and when loaded it tends to be more oval and because it's not rigid wobbles a bit.

I'm hoping with the support in it'll hold its shape better and stay up and out of the way in exchange for a little more weight (it's mostly filled with down items so it's more bulky than heavy as is). it will also allow me to be a bit more firm when stuffing the items in as it'll provide a bit more resistance.

wondering if anyone else has done similar or if it's a fools errand?

  • I've had an external support made (by Stayer Cycles). Same idea as the Nitto F16 but for oversized stem and bars and with a round shape adapted to the the bag I'm using. Works perfectly. I'll see if I can find some pictures!
