One of my best mates' Mali, that'll soon belong to me. Hungarian-made lugged frameset, Columbus Aelle tubing. Probably one of a kind. Of course not all parts are period-correct (nor will they be when I'll start tinkering on it).

Nice fades.

I love your bike, looking pristine indeed!
I have got a '91 Comp, pretty scratched up, torn decals etc. but with character. Do you (does anyone) have any recommandations on how to maintain the character (preserve the decals) while not having it fading away any further?
Also any ideas of getting a rigid Quadra more supple? Or does anyone have an original KHS fork available?

Nice Marin
I used to lust for one of those -

And me! When I wanted one the frame set was something like £1500!
Me, being poor, settled for a palisades trail, in zolotone.....it got to know Epping forest intimately though!

I'm afraid it's impossible to prevent it from further fading. It happens because the paint isn't "strong" enough to withstand the chemical reactions due to UV-light. Modern paint can but the one used back then, can't. The only thing you can do is keep it out of sunlight as much as possible.
What size is your Comp?

I planned on buying an Indian Fire Trail but than I was offered an aluminium DEAN for half the price of an IFT (and bought that one).

Good choice!

Thanks! Yeah the rear mech doesn't miss a beat. I think they are specialized hubs, going strong.
Nooo this was made the year I was born, I've had it for a few years. I just added the stem. Looking for some smoke/dart tyres atm. -

Great to see it being enjoyed/appreciated. Salsa stems do look good. They have re-issued Smokes/Darts. A few places and people have been selling them. For example: https://best-bike-parts.de/tire-26-inch
You might find cheaper, but getting old 2nd hand tyres doesn't always pay which is why if you can get re-issue at a reasonable price I'd get them as they'll last longer as rubber degrades overtime and becomes less supple/cracks, last thing you want when riding :)

They're a bit cheaper at bike discount. ;)

:) There was someone on Retrobike selling them a while back, but think he only had Smokes, but assume they've all gone based on date it was posted, although someone has posted a message recently:

49,5 cm center bracket-top seattube. I'm planning on cutting the peeled edges of the decals, clean and lightly sand the frame and spray one or two layers of clearcoat (but first will check if the decals will hold).

Finished this for my mom.

That Mali up there looks ace!

Cheers, it'll look a lot more with the setup in I'm planning for it. :P

It's like a T-Max clone! Ritchey dropouts, pretty rowdy. 'Spinner' forks must not be orignal?
-
• #1295
I've got a factory stock Spinner fork in my Scott Windriver 89 so it might be original.
-
• #1296
It IS original. Man, I really must resist... This was the bike I lusted for back in 1991. If I hadn't bought so many bikes recently, I would go for it.

Edit my previous post... I bought it.

I still have the page from the catalogue...
