  • As someone who has followed Chelsea since the early 1960s, the first and most important priority each season is to avoid relegation. Once that is achieved, one can relax.

At present, after 25 games, we are on 50 points. While most commentators say that 40 points should bring safety, I think we are all wise enough to remember West Ham going down with 43 or 42 points and the mathematical possibility exists of going down with a greater number.

As the season progrtesses, the number of points required drops.

Cardiff are in 18th place. They have 22 points. If they win their remaining games, they will finish the season 11 points above us if we lose ours. Obviously, teams just above Cardiff would also have to do well but they would not have to do as well as Cardiff who could afford to lose three games.

    Squeaky bum time.

  • Thought you’d have something better to say than this sub mikec reverse hex nonsense, especially after your big signing scored two goals on his home debut, albeit against Huddersfield and your new manager getting things back on track.
On a Sarri note, regular guardian columnist Johnathon Wilson believes Sarri needs two seasons to put his idiosyncratic football philosophy in place and that Chelsea aren’t going to give him two seasons, and that he’ll be gone soon enough..
