  • Happy New Year!
There's a 2+yr old thread but no update since. Does anyone here know if the full loop road around the Olympic Park is open (ie both sections, 1st/northern around the Velopark area + the 2nd/southern around the stadium). Route in attached screenshot.
Also if yes, is the road all okay for spinning some laps (as there's only so many hundred times I can go round Regents Park in a year....)
    Thanks!

  • Last time i went round about a month or so ago there was a bit of road blocked off not far from where that blue dot is on that map. (there is a set of traffic lights there) you can go up on the pavement but obviously its not ideal.

  • Have they got the traffic lights on sensors now? Last time I went i was just waiting there for nothing.

  • Where the buses come out they seem to be on a sequence.

  • I ride this in a figure of eight loop almost every morning. Current observations:

It is still blocked off as mentioned above, so you still need to go up onto the pavement. Immediately north of this there is a huge trench, about 100 metres long, dug in the left hand lane of the road with temporary traffic lights.

The road behind the velodrome (Northern most) has become gradually more obstructed. It's not a big problem, but the cement blocks where you come off to turn South are very close to one another now, so I tend to mount the pavement earlier on the road and stick to the inside around that bend, joining the road further down.

That part of the road can also be quickly inundated with traffic if the A12 is busy.

  • Although they haven't stopped me riding along it, there is some filming going on on Northwall Road. They were there on Friday and again today - lots of people/vehicles.

  • The south loop is now unrideable for... wait for it... 5 years.

  • What! It's my go to for quiet roads...

  • Yeah it sucks. The road between the Acquatic Centre and the Copper Box is shut in both directions. The site they are working on is huge. I spoke to a guard there yesterday who said it would be like that for 5 years. God knows if it’s true, but to be honest there is construction all over the site now. Opposite the Velodrome, next to Here East, on Westfield Avenue, by Pudding Mill Lane...

It is funny if you look at the area on a map and it’s all green, when in reality that whole are is going to be extremely dense and built-up soon. It’s such a depressing shame as it was a great space.

You can still get some decent-ish riding done, but it’s not the same. Need to hit it early doors, but you can still fashion a loop by taking a left at the Acquatic centre and then go up the hill and along Westfield Avenue, but as I mentioned there’s yet more construction along there. You can also drop down behind Westfield and past Stratford International, but all of this means many more traffic lights and buses etc. I think I’ll just stick to the top loop, traffic dependent. Basically, it sucks.

I’d go to Regents, but by the time I get over there, I won’t have time for much before I have to be at work. Might have to even revert to lapping Victoria Park again, but that can get busy with pedestrians.

  • The maps are out of date as soon as they are published. My son lives there and every time I visit him something new has been built.

On the bright side, there will be a ton of new housing, and given the high profile of the site it should be decently built. The big green space was only ever going to be temporary.

  • Here's what I managed this morning. Blue stars are where there is construction.

  • On the Olympic park it is stated to be for 3 years :/

  • Interesting. Where did you see this? I only heard it from a guard on the site, so nothing official. Either way, it's a looooong old time.

  • *Olympic Park website

  • Seems like this is why, which looks pretty good tbf: https://www.queenelizabetholympicpark.co.uk/the-park/attractions/east-bank

  • If you look on the map, Sweetwater, Waterfront and Eastwick correspond to the construction marked on my map from this morning: https://www.queenelizabetholympicpark.co.uk/the-park/plan-your-visit/park-map

  • I live in mile end so the ride there as a warm up then you can do an hour + then warm down was the ride home.

It was good as you could pretty much just switch off and go about your business.

Vicky park laps is awful to i tried that and stayed on the left and people still decided to run straight at me.

  • That's a very optimistic view...

  • Not sure of the best place to post this but any support would be welcome, post to other relevant threads please

  • Signed.

It's an absolute joke what's being done around there. All the roads are getting increasingly congested. Haven't really got an alternative for morning tempo. I really wish they'd open the circuit by the velodrome at sunrise, or at least 7 or even 8am would be better than 9 - I'd pay good money for access to that.

  • Anyone ridden around here? Looks like you could do some good circuit routes at pace, but not sure how busy it's likely to be early morning in the week and if it's worth going to have a look.
