• much to my mums discontent, i installed 1" crowns with a metal pipe from a miele vacuum cleaner, it was perfect size but after a couple it starts to kink on the edges

  • @amey ooft, any photos of them on the site?
This interests me. What kinda riding do you do on them? And if you don't mind me asking... What do you weigh? I'd assume there's a weight limit that my fat arse likely exceeds...

@HoKe I'll send you a pm, I'd potentially take some time in the group buy if not too late and open to folk outside london

  • Have you got a link the frame please? Looks very similar to my Rose.

  • Looks like a FM066

  • I think it's a Hongfu FM066 like @croft suggested. Found it on the WeightWeenies forum. I think the silver parts look good on it surprisingly

  • Absolutely. The silver makes it

  • Nice one. I think I've read too much online about ChinesCarbon forks and its made me neurotic. They didn't shatter when I was whacking the crown race on these so I'm sure they're fine...

  • I did audax-ing all year on it in 2018. I weigh between 66-69kg. LB might have a weight limit on their site, they are the flyweight rims. Unbelievable weight and performance. So easy to set up tubeless as well. I run WTB Horizons on them.

  • yes, but it's not very acceptable in public

  • I dream of ultra light wheels but fear I'll be forever incompatible with them. Meh, I go between 86-90kg. Had carbon american classic wheels with a low spoke count and weighed around 1440g but they would flex into the rear brake pads a fair bit when cranking out the saddle.

If only I could get back to what I weighed when I was 21 :(

Edit - see that the weight limit is a claimed 90kg for flyweight rim. https://www.lightbicycle.com/bead-hook-less-rims-carbon-29er-light-bike-rim-tubeless-compatible.html
Thats significantly more than I expected. Almost hard to believe really.

You ever felt them to be flexy?

  • breaking teeth possibly more apt name

  • Silver parts def make it. Needs silver PD-7800 pedals to complete

  • breaking wind?

Breaking into uncontrolled mirth. The stem extension is exactly the wrong shape.

Not as funny as this, from the "see also..." on the same page

  • Fake sl70 - terrible idea, really terrible idea or totally reasonable idea?

  • resist and just buy some nice alloy bars.

I had genuine carbon s-works bars that cracked after I had an embarrassing couldnt-get-unclipped-in-time-while-slowly-rolling-to-a-stop.
Very slow speed, bars hit the ground with no real load on them. Admittedly its still a crash and maybe there was more force involved than I realise but it diminished by trust in carbon bars, genuine or chinese. If the real McCoy cracked seemingly easily then I'd guess the fakes wont be so strong either.
Bought second hand alloy ritchey evo curves and still ride them today.

  • To be honest, I'm perfectly happy with the service course zipps I have used for the past couple of years, these just tick lots of boxes for me... Common sense tells me to steer well clear.

  • Aye, totally understand. I really really wanted to tick the sub 200g box. Aesthetics too. The idea that carbon bars might transmit less buzz into my wrists too(not sure I really notice any difference on current bars).
I'd be tempted by genuine carbon bars again but its just the price vs alloy. My heart sank when I realised bars had cracked. Not only had I looked a massive tit in front of 20 people at train station, I was also £200 out of pocket.

  • I've bought a similar set of cheap crabon bars a couple years back, seemed fine and used them for a bit before sliding out in a corner. No visible damage to the bars nor me or any other part of the bike, but I binned them because I didn't trust them afterwards and realised I had no reason to do so before. Bought a set of alloy equivalents and never looked back.

  • I have the same attitude to my service course zipps, they are just great for me. am building a new bike and they are the only thing (alongside saddle) I kept from the old build. csb.

  • Seriously feelin some Carbonda vibes right now

  • Really wanted one of those carbonda frames for a while. Put off by past experience of Chinese frame, slipping seat posts, ordering process, QC lottery etc.
Don't need one but if one in a 58cm equivalent ever turns up in the classifieds here I'd no doubt take it.

Anyone got one in a 58?
