Mrs CYOA has been banging on about her friend from uni that owns a stationers for ages and they've just opened a branch in Brighton (Papersmiths) so I popped in. Slightly twee (though very pretty) in terms of presentation but it didn't stop me enjoying at least half an hour arranging slightly wonky pens on shelves :/
Saw a Tombow Zoom 707 in the flesh for the first time. Absolutely nuts design. Like it but find the rubber seal around the twist mechanism is a bit loose so could imagine being unsatisfied with it as it slips down over time. Saw a couple of other Tombows but for the most it was just (very) nice coloured felt pens and pencils. I did however pick up a metallic blue OhTo Horizon. Really lovely action (side button to release). Feels really nice to click. Will see how long the spring lasts after my intensive fervour. Books and magazines didn't do a lot for me. And their notepads were slim pickings. Still. Beats WHSmiths. 7 pens out of 10.Edit: Another gripe is lack of stock compared to their website. Would have loved to stock up on some Pigma Microns https://www.papersmiths.co.uk/collections/pens/products/pigmamicronpen-purple or these Color On You things https://www.papersmiths.co.uk/collections/pens/products/liveworkcoloronyoupenturquoise

Any recommendations for a pen that either uses a pilot g-1 refill or writes as nicely (0.5mm version) but looks nicer?

FWIW my partner cut and used a manga pen nib into an empty nib holder.
Art nibs tend to be more flexible than writing nibs, but having to dip a nib means it is not very portable (hi, ink pot).
It worked for a while but then corroded. So if you want to do that sort of experiment ensure you use a nib that doesn't corrode.

It uses a G2 but I love my one of these https://www.machine-era.com/products/machine-era-pen-solid-brass

Ooh that's interesting. That's the sort of thing I was after, I will have to try a G2 and see if I like the feel of it

Does anyone have a recommendation for a nice but inexpensive propelling pencil?
Ideally one that is fairly shock proof
I guess a bit like a pencil version of an F701

Pentel Graphgear 1000. It has a retractable sleeve. They can be had for less than a tenner.

Cheers that looks good.
These also looked fun... although I have no idea why I'd want such a chubster.
https://www.cultpens.com/i/q/KW63506/kaweco-skyline-classic-sport-clutch-pencil-fox...shame they're so expensive on Cult Pens, as they such great guys so I always try to buy from them.

The Worther Shorty is a viable alternative, if you like them fat.

Does anyone have good alternatives for thin (0.3mm) gel ink pens?
I've been using these from Muji but they are quite expensive and there are no refills for them

Not specifically, but have you thought about buying a pen you like with a standard size refill, then putting a 0.3mm gel in it?
ie something like: https://www.cultpens.com/i/q/OH43610/ohto-pg-105np-needlepoint-gel-refill
(I realise it's 0.2mm but you get the idea)

Awesome, I didn't know there is a standard for refills. I'm after a good subtle pen that fits these refills then.

Bit random, but does anyone have a Parker Sonnet they want to sell?

I've always liked the idea of dip pens/ink for line drawings and sketches - worth a go? Any recommendations for pens/nibs/inks to try? I'm a pencils bloke mostly.

Sure it was someone here who put me onto the machined brass pens on aliexpress.
Anyway, keep meaning to say that I put a two black O-rings on the threaded section before the cap. It means there's less unscrewing and looks a bit more finished. If you have a need to keep the cap on more securely, just use one O-ring.Oh and the refills are cheap on AE too. I think they also work in Cross pens.

When I was a lad in the 90s , I had a pen that was either a rollerball that had a fountain attachment or a fountain pen that had a rollerball attachment. Just clipped over the end and the pen changed.
Took cartridges of ink (they had a metal ball stopper I seem to remember)Can anyone help identify this pen? (Or a similar one)
I lost it years back and wouldn't mind replacing it.

Propelling pencil, under £20?
Learning some technical drawing and for what I’ll be using it for it’ll be easier by hand. -

Rotring were always the original TD mechanical pencils to have.
You can get a set of three for under £20 on Amazon.

Can anyone help me find some notebooks?
Plain paper
80+ GSM (writing with a fountain pen but definitely not a sketchpad)
Spiral bound (long side)
A4
perforated
recycled
I'm not sure what's wrong with my google-fu but there doesn't seem to be much available. What do other people write on?
Basically I just want this but in plain paper...
