I haven't got any images of what I plan to do but I remember when @coldharbour did that unicorn TT bike he chopped a bit of the seattube out and brazed a 1mm is steel sheet on instead. I think it will be a simple solution if the seat tube is otherwise in good condition.

Chop out that whole section of seatpost and replace with plate. Will be nicely "vertically compliant" I imagine.

If I end up doing it like I imagine I don't think stiffness will suffer in any way.

Yes. Don't be afraid of sharing your failures. It is through being honest and posting my fuck ups that I have learned most. Too many hide their mistakes imo.
