@snottyotter which olive do I need for Shimano BR BL MT200?
-
• #5555
All shimano olives are the same, barb will depend on the hose type, silver for BH90, brass for BH59
-
• #5556
They're probably BH59.
-
• #5557
BR-MT200 uses BH59:

I'm not in an appropriate place for an erection and now I'm in a lot of trouble, thanks a lot.

Sorry if this has already been asked - new bike but front brake is rubbing
I can't seem to adjust pistons or pads enough to stop it
Is it normal to have bit of rub while it beds in?
-
• #5561
Adjust the caliper.
slacken caliper bolts on frame/fork, wiggle caliper, recenter over rotor/disc gently spin wheel, if no rubbing re-tighten bolts.with the now somewhat defunct IS calipers this was a black art of facing the mounting points and shimming the caliper to perfection. The bonus was this was fixed position and not moved if you gave the caliper a hefty smack......unlike post mounts :)
Depending on mount type it might pay to have LBS face off the mounts so they are square and remove any paint, this does enable a bit more side to side adjustment for the caliper.

A Hayes Disc Brake Alignment tool is also a godsend for setting up disc brakes on postmount without rub. One of those tools you buy and wonder what you did without it 😀

@velosaurus not heard of them, is it a branded block of wood and small hammer :)
-
• #5564
In purple too :)
https://handsonbike.blogspot.com/2014/01/hayes-caliper-alignment-tool.htmlNever seen them before :)

Thats it. Work well on hydraulics and also dual mechanical brakes like spyres.
-
• #5566
Seems pointless.

Have to agree
-
• #5568
Yeah, I didnt see the point until I got one.

Just ordered a shimano bleed kit and new pads for deore m596.
Never bled brakes before, is it as straightforward as the vids show or any hive mind pro tips? -
• #5570
Thanks, I did try to realign the caliper too but this didnt work
Maybe facing off the mounts would work but I'm a bit disappointed as its a new bike. Maybe I can abuse the warranty

Have you seen the Park Tool youtube channel?
-
• #5572
Oh yeh, have used that previously when I’ve needed stuff. Cheers, will give it a watch.

If you've got the little funnel thing then just whack that on with some fluid in and pump the lever like fuck until all the bubbles are gone, good 3 or minutes so, tap the hose as you go. If you want to swap out all fluid, do that first then pump the lever like a twat after.
-
• #5574
Yeah there’ll def be some twat pumpery going down.
Just acquired the bike so no idea how long the oils been in there so will do a full bleed. Front is mushy and rear squeals something fierce. Picked up some disc cleaner too. -

Mineral oil doesn't really need swapping out as a regular thing like DOT but can't hurt if they're new to you. Probably good to get the pistons part out and cleaned while you're already dicking about, and give the pads and rotors a good sand and clean and proper bedding in.
Right - I have ordered some race matrix Uberbike pads, some Shimano XT RT86 Ice-Tec rotors and some TRP compressionless cables. Will report back.
