Just spoke to HMRC call line. Didn't clear much up for me. Question:
The phone'helper' guy said i made payments on account in Jan 18 and July 18. He can see them.
My tax return is a larger number than these payments on account. (Cos 17-18 was better than 16-17)
So, do I just need to pay the difference?
The difference plus half payment on account for the next tax year surely?
As far as I know it's that the tax return is a dumb spreadsheet so it doesn't know that you've paid last year's. Once you submit the calculation is done and that takes it into account. Fucking stupid system
