  • Using their sizing method puts me a size and a half down from my Shimano shoes and on a Comp Last for width. Does that sound right?

  • a Comp Last for width

The wide version of the Comp last?

  • No, just the normal one I think. Maybe all those years of wearing undersized shoes paid off.

  • Well, I went down from 52 Shimano to 50 Lake, but they were both 'wide' options

The Shimanos were definitely too long for me, as I had to drill the cleat slots back a little

  • The Lakes appear to have more arch support than the Shimanos. Don't know if that could affect any custom orthotics you might be using

  • Nothing about this shoe chat is long, low, slack or chuckable

  • Nothing about this shoe chat is long

"The Shimanos were definitely too long for me"

  • *Receives ban for threats *

  • Your chuckable

    Sizest!

  • Okay, so a reduction in sizing tallies. It said not to add anything to the width and I think I'm in a half way point between last types so I just left it smaller one. I've got a cheap pair of Shimano MTB shoes to test but still tempted by those XC9s. Shimano have worked in the past.

  • I have some custom inners on my old shoes but just use the normal Shimano ones in my race shoes. Didn't bother with the heat molding or anything. Any idea which shops will stock Shimano and Lake in town?

  • You wear size 50 something which is very long, shoes are the lowest part of the body and if you'd seen me get home you'd know that shoes are perfectly chuckable.

  • Do folks use the same internal width on front and rear? If you couldn't for some reason, I guess you'd want the narrower rim on the back?

Found a cheap 30mm internal rim, buying a second one would be >£50. A 25mm internal and matching is £30 so wondering if that'll do.

Edit: I'm currently rocking 19mm front and rear. My gravel thing has wider rims than my MTB

  • I've got a 25mm internal rear/30mm internal front on this. Mostly because It's got a 2.3" rear/2.6" front tyre combo

  • Hmm, I'm on 2.3" on both but I could maybe go a smidge bigger on the front. Is 30mm too wide?

Edit. I was just looking through that thread today. Nice bike. I enjoyed your steadfastness in rejecting all the weight weenie suggestions

  • I've got 30mm internal width rims, and a 2.4 Vigilante on the front, and a 2.3 Trailboss on the rear and both are fine, despite both saying not to exceed 28mm rim.

  • The Lakes are seriously massively wide. I love mine. They are the ONLY comfortable cycling shoes I have ever owned. Don't worry about the arch thing - the soles are removable and the custom inners will slide right in.

I have some unworn 48s in a box next to my desk if you fancy a ride SE to try them on. Bring Mal. :)

  • I'd have a 2.3" on a 30mm internal rim. Probably nothing below that

Have just fitted a 2.35" on another 30mm rim, and it's just right imo. Will depend a little on the tyre tread pattern though

  • @BareNecessities -Shaq's Cannondale

  • :) One day. You should know by now I don't get out of bed cross the river for less than £10k. I think by the sound of it 48s in Lake will be too big anyway. I might poke my head in the Evans here and see what they have.

  • Nah, that's deffo a rebadged Moulton.

  • Found a cheap 30mm internal rim, buying a second one would be >£50. A 25mm internal and matching is £30 so wondering if that'll do.

Yeah that will do. Unless you have specific wideness requirements?
