  • I am not getting enough stopping power with Spyres.

I am heavy, plus Surly Straggler plus luggage which is heavy and my daughter on the back...

    Want maximum stopping power really.

  • might give these a go instead

  • I have trp hylex on my commuter bike.
I think they're the best hydraulic trp do?
    Otherwise Shimano ultegra ?

  • Want maximum stopping power really.

Riser bars + Magura Gustav + 203mm rotors

  • Changing out the stock pads makes a huge difference to Spyres. I use Uberbike race matrix pads. Compressionless cable outer makes a marginal difference as well.

  • Compressionless ftw, with the juintech too. I'm happy with my juintechs but bigger rotors does equal moar power if you're bike can take them.

  • I’m confident I’d have killed a small child today if I had rim brakes.
However my spyres perfectly adequately stopped me very quickly with the back tyre an inch or two from the ground.

This is with uberbike pads, shimano icetech rotors and dura ace cables I might add

  • Bigger rotors, better pads, compressionless cables.

  • shimano icetech rotors

These are so good. They do wear fast as a consequence. Only discs I've ever worn out...on a burly MTB that went to the alps, mind.

  • SRAM brakes? No ta.

  • That's blakeist

  • I have new rotors and new pads fitted by a good bike shop. When will they stop making a horrible noiseb when I haul on them

  • They shouldn't really do it from the start, proper bedding in from new is always helpful though.

  • Possible if you’re hauling before they are bedded in you now have glazed pads/rotors..

  • As far as I know there's nothing stopping you from using Shimano Post-mount M-series calipers with road hydraulic brake levers. Pretty sure first gen hydro brifters often came connected to BR-M785 (XT) calipers. PM caliper to IS frame/fork is a common adapter.

  • Might be worth making sure they were designed with the same hose bore in mind, but I've mixed before without anything seeming bad. Most of the newer road stuff and SLX and above MTB is BH90 from (poor) memory.

  • What colour Uber pads do you use?

  • I’m using the cheapest shimano clamper up front, a deore on the back, to rs795 or 785 levers - can’t remebwr which! Work nice, the callipers don’t leak like the stock ones and I just use non finned pads... finned pads and ice tech rotors meant the system didn’t warm nicely, I feel that a bit of heat helps, not too much though!

  • I use the white race matrix uberbike pads. Done several big tours on them (GDMBR, TNR, WAAT), really happy with them.

  • Really like the 785 lever/R7000 callipers on my Secan. Had to swap out the 785 callipers due to flat mount frame. Sounds like I dodged a bullet there?

  • Yes!

785s on mine were crap, hoping they last longer on my OH bike before we need to swap them

  • What. I thought bedding in did mean hauling on them. How does one fix glazed rotors and pads

  • They’re yellow. Not sure what that means

  • Sandpaper and IPA
