Just looking at how to get back from Brest.
Ferry from Roscoff is in the afternoon so would need to stay overnight in Plymouth.
Other option is Ryanair to Southend. Flight is cheap but it costs more for the bike than the ticket - 60 fucking Euros.
And Southend is not that close. I've done bike rides from London to Southend before.
Not sure I'm up for the hassle of boxing the bike up, enduring a doing over by Ryanair's customer service and still ending up in Southend. It was easier to get back from Canekkale. -

Yeah return is going to be awkward.

Ryanair
Never an option.

• #280
Ride back?
-
• #281
8hr on trains?
You could bag your bike and stick it on TGV
7hr w/ Eurostar
-
• #282
Yes, would less hassle - a cheeky overnight 300km.
Or just bivvy in the ferry port and get the first train.
Get back just in time for work. -
• #283
Actually that might be the best idea, didn't think of that.
The other option is Air France changing in Paris. They also want €55 for taking a bike though

bag your bike
I once sat on a train in a station in France and watched a guy - I think he was British, a Frenchman would be too ashamed to be seen doing this - standing on another platform dismantle his bike fairly roughly and put the various bits into 4-5 different black bin bags, presumably so he could get on a TGV.

Ride to st Marlo and get ferry. The ride from ferry to London.
-
• #286
I'm sure this was mentioned somewhere before. Dunno where, but I'm sure I checked out a google map for ferry routes back.
-
• #287
It's 230km. Ferry is 10:30am. Would need to leave straight after the party.
There is a train, but only one a day and it doesn't get there in time.I'd rather not fly and I'd rather not fly Ryanair, but it is actually looking like the least shit option.
-
• #288
I assumed you wouldn't bother with the party.
Can't say I'd want to hang out in brest. Not quite Meteors in Greece. -
• #289
Yeah, maybe I won't. It is kind of nice to round it off with a few beers and stories and so on, but nicer to do it somewhere else other than Brest!
For you it would be a big pain to hang around there for a week, but it would only be a day or two for me, and there would be some people already there to have beers with, so not so bad!
As long as the earlier finishers don't all split beforehand.Plenty of time to think about it. I don't think the transport is any better on any other day - can't do it in a single day unless you fly.

• #290
Get back a day later?
-
• #291
Yes, but it would be a bit miserable staying in a hotel in Plymouth or St Malo or somewhere when I would just want to be at home by that stage.
-
• #292
Hotel bar + sleep = "travel, what travel?"

Next you'll be telling me that you didn't join the Wizz Discount Club.
-
• #294
The "are you sure you don't want to save £15 click here to spend extra £60" club?
-
• #295
Yes, the value proposition for that one was somewhat questionable
-
• #296
You mean something like this?

I assumed the 'pay £9 so you get compensation if we are late' was an intelligence test.
Actually, it might be against the law as it is really a form of gambling. And one where they have all the data so should be able to stack the odds.
If they can get people to sign up for that they should give up flying the planes and just focus on running a book on whether flights will be on time or not
-
• #298
Haha!
Yes, only this guy put his wheels inside black bags. To begin with, being unaware of his probable purpose, I thought he was chucking then away. Was that your 'non-bike luggage'?
-
• #299
It seems people do pretty well with that one. They are famously late with the last flight of the day out of certain airports.

If you have the data, you can choose when to bet! But I guess they only let you play when you go on the flight, so hard to bet on the last flight every night.
I paid in £. I did see the currency options but I'd had enough of their 200 dropdowns.
