Half of magistrates courts in England and Wales closed since 2010. Bloody hell, why isn't stuff like this bigger news? Decimation of public services.

Didn't know where to put this but...
“Classical music is surrounded by the misconception that it’s irrelevant, sterile and inaccessible. What many people don’t realise is there is an authentic modern-day narrative to accompany classical music which is really connecting with people.”
If I had to give a statement about something and wanted to give the impression it was irrelevant, sterile and inaccessible, I'd probably say something about "authentic modern-day narratives".

“Our research shows film screenings, experiential events such as Secret Cinema and themed performances such as Pete Tong Ibiza Classics are key drivers in exposing under-44s to classical music,”
Oh dear.

under-44s
Curious threshold.
There's some pretty rad modern opera about, that seems to have engaging modern day narratives. I find it a bit challenging, aurally, but I'll readily admit my tastes are rather MoR. -

His defence is the sun in his eyes. See automatism. It fits the criteria.
My police driving instructor kept a dead wasp in a matchbox for such a defence. It was alright in the 80s! -

Could be worse, living out your retirement on a pacific island, own private waterside residence, a few mates and someone to throw you oats. I'd take it.

It sounds fine if you ignore the fact that he was mauled to death by dogs.

Ah yeah, missed that bit. Not the best end.

'Decimation' is taking out one in ten (the clue is in the word 'deci....') so the attack on public services is worse than that!

I am queuing up in the Balham branch of the Halifax for the third time today. Amazed that Sky and the wires aren’t all over this.

yeah but to be fair they are wearing dresses.

Everything on my private island retreat was going well until I died horribly.

What in "deci" is the clue to "reduced by" rather than "reduced to"? When people say "quartered" they don't mean reduced by one quarter.
Yes, I know the name was originally applied to a Roman military punishment. Most people have never heard of it, it's hardly a useful thing to know about in modern life and the word has been widely reused with a new and perfectly reasonable meaning.
Obsolete pedantry can get in the sea, along with people obsessing about punctuation "rules" that were adopted to make it easer to work with lead type that we don't use any more.

I stand with Bruce.

As a man who until recently double spaced after a full stop (rule from the days of typewriters), I am also with Bruce on this.
It's like how the word slut used to mean somebody who was behind in their chores. It doesn't mean that now.

I was ready to let it slide until he started on punctuation.

Why did you stop? This looks odd to me. This looks much better and is easier to read in longer paragraphs.
Prince Philip says that the sun was in his eyes so he couldn't see anything and so pulled out into a road he knows has lots of fast traffic. Careless driving is a crime, as is dangerous driving. The Prince's admission of guilt is on the borderline of the definition of dangerous driving.
