Actually, given the time machine comment, there’s actually quite a few 26” rims out there. I get the impression US riders are still wanting them.

• #8203
Hah. I think not.
-
• #8204
Yeah, but tell me about the bike.

It’s discy so I went with some mtb rims.

Will stick a pic on Monstour thread in the next few days.

@Skülly, @withered_preacher – these look great too. Thank you!
For context: I'm sick of riding my pre-CAAD Cannondale on gravel even with 28c tyres so picked up a GT Karakoram to build up nice.

Fwiw I don’t know how easy it is to find Sun Rhyno these days, I was looking a while back with no luck. I actually think the H+Son one you found looks dope.

The halo white line is a nice rim for v brakes, available in 26.

It's really cool to see all the tough, rim brake 26" wheels I was missing. I've now got the opposite problem and have to figure out which one to pick.

For any of those ITK, is there/ will there be a Mavic Exalith UST rim this year?
-
• #8217
I just tried to loosen a seized spoke on my Mavic Askium (rear non-driveside) and it snapped at the nipple.
Anyone know if the wheel will be safe to ride until I get a replacement wheel/spoke? The spoke was very loose anyway so I don't think it was doing much.
Going to try the LBS tomorrow but seems like these spokes aren't common for them to have in stock.

^rode the wheel all day today and it was fine.

Other than ease of building, I take it there's no point on having bladed spokes on wheels used exclusively for cyclocross? Not at the speeds I race it, anyway, which are to say the very least somewhat modest.
Got a new set of cyclocross wheels to build and I'm trying to persuade myself that black Alpinas will be fine and CX-Rays will be overkill.
-
• #8220
CX-Rays will be overkill
By any rational economic analysis, CX-Rays are overkill for anybody paying for their own wheels, regardless of which discipline they suck at.
-
• #8221
On the other hand, they wouldn't call them CX-rays if they weren't primarily intended for CX, so you'd be a fool to do anything other than use CX-Rays for your CX wheels 🙂

I'm trying to persuade myself that black Alpinas will be fine
Have you also persuaded yourself that black spokes are nearly twice as good as silver? 😉
-
• #8223
red ones are faster tho
-
• #8224
Black hubs and carbon rims. Silver spokes would be crayzeeeee.

When I build up 3× wheels I find myself bending the spokes quite severely in order to do the crossings without scratching the rim. Is this a problem? I am assuming because they're steel spokes they're fine.
I guess the solution would be to cross all the spokes and then just attach each nipple rather than doing the 4 groups as in the Sheldon method?
You're building a 26" wheeled rough stuff bike?
You're so on trend these days.
