Is there any truth in the rumour you get more exposure posting from an iphone?
Currently using a huawei whilst trying to build my 'fanbase' and not getting too many likes.
Username is danslatteryfoto if you want to check my images, mainly Architectural photography -

I think the mistake you are making is posting your own content - much better to steal others’ content

You've also got to put most of your effort into the motivational caption, include the terms 'Hard Work pays off', 'Thankful for this lifestyle' and maybe a couple 'Bro this was so rad' a few times a week.

Something about hustling too.
Not quite digital nomad enough while I'm at it. -

I've noticed how hard it is to get new followers now compared with a few years back. I think people are starting to get bored of Instagram added to the "follow-unfollow" tactics employed now and sheer amount of content uploaded every millisecond.
Good luck! -

Is it just me or is the app absolutely awful on Android? It's like 10 times slower to load than the website.
-
• #663
I've uninstalled it, it's got worse and worse since the new, improved algorithm came in... Shame, I really loved it 'til they fucked it up...

I barely use the app to be honest but it does have some features that the website doesn't like being able to follow hashtags and clicking on stuff in people's stories. I guess I can probably survive without those things.

Someone with more knowledge of this sort of thing should write a little bookmarklet script that takes an Instagram post and converts it into [![](direct image URL)](link to post) format so you can paste it directly onto here for a clickable link. Anyone?
Would do it myself but a) I am mobile-only for the next few days b) I can only do Fortran/Python/bash/etc. An hour's work if you know what you're doing.
If no one does it I'll learn JavaScript (?) and give it a go in a week.

The kids are moving over to VSCO as soon as VSCO does a free-of-charge thing but with more filters.
Or whatever is less facebook:y.

I don't think they are

Okay, I posted above about a bookmarklet for reposting Instagram stuff onto the forum. It turns out I don't know anything about javascript and I can't be arsed to learn it.
Here's how far I've got based on copy/pasting shit from Stack Overflow:
javascript:function(){ // to do... var imgURL = document.querySelector('img.something').src; // Create new element var el = document.createElement('textarea'); // Set value (string to be copied) el.value = "![]("+imgURL+")"; // Set non-editable to avoid focus and move outside of view el.setAttribute('readonly', ''); el.style = {position: 'absolute', left: '-9999px'}; document.body.appendChild(el); // Select text inside element el.select(); // Copy text to clipboard document.execCommand('copy'); // Remove temporary element document.body.removeChild(el); }
I am stuck now. I don't know how/where to find the Instagram image URL.
There is an extension that does something similar here:
https://github.com/odditive/instagram-image-url/blob/master/src/extension/content.js
However that just takes whatever you right click and uses that as the image URL through this:
clickedEl = event.target.parentElement.childNodes[0].childNodes[0]; .... url = clickedEl.src;
I could just add another context menu element thing to that extension, but then I have to learn how to write/add a Chrome extension and that's a pain in the arse.
Surely it's like a 5 minute job to get this working for someone who knows Javascript?
All my work is Fortran/Python, I'm got no idea with this sort of stuff

I don't know how/where to find the Instagram image URL.
Add
/media/?size=l
to the end, and hit return.Remove the 'taken by' part of the url, when it's there.

Well, I'm already using the extension I mentioned above, which makes the whole thing quite easy:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/getthatpic/fkdmnfbeaepmildaolaoicjbfkghpcco?hl=en
however it'd still be nice to have as a bookmarklet that works on mobile etc., and it'd save the 1-2 seconds it takes to type
![]()
every time, works for people who don't like installing random extensions, etc.And you could have it format the image into a link as well through the horrible
[![](img)](link)
format.Edit: ooooh hang on, are you saying that that would work to get the image URL in the bookmarklet? Nice. Does it work with albums though?

Do people bot new follows to certain accounts ?
Started following an account (Void Tokyo Collective) and then started getting follows and likes from Japanese accounts that I don't normally get.
Feels that genuine interactions are pretty minimal these days and everything is just bots and auto likes/follows. -

There's a lot of this, yeah. There's a lot of personal brand promotion. I get more satisfaction from following people on here/bikey fb groups and interacting with those people

Instagram wanker of the week.
His entire instagram presence consists of screenshotting other people's work and reposting them with the caption "All credit to photographer/owner" but not actually going to the bother of saying who that is or @ing them so people can get to the original source etc.
He's been called out on it and the original posters of the images have even asked for their images to be removed but he just ignores this.

I've been with Smugmug for years and years. One of the very few things I pay for on the net. Even on their lowest tier you get unlimited storage which includes HD videos. Not many places do that. You can customise your site and retrieve your stuff quite simply. They've always been very helpful and their iOS and android apps seem robust.
