  • I guess we'll never know :(

  • In other news I've bought some Dura Ace 7700 bits for this.

    Unofficial wanted ad:

    1. 170 or 172.5 Dura Ace cranks
    2. 100mm quill stem and suitable bars

Looking at other DA builds the levers seem to work best on anatomic bars. Anyone got any experience with this?

  • Slow progress (can blame myHermes for that).

  • New Year's update. I'm expecting the frame back from the lovely people at August Cycles any day now.

A couple of teasers from their Insta.

  • Nice project! It looks like they did a great job on the frame repairs.

  • Ouf! Love the fillet brazing! Great job.

  • Cheers guys.

It looks like they did a great job on the frame repairs.

Can't recommend them highly enough. Toying with the idea of having a frame from Gav to replace my road fixed from another UK framebuilder which is shoddy in comparison.

  • Full list of (extensive) work done on the frame:

    1. Head tube repaired with sleeves brazed inside and re-reamed to accept a headset. Rings added to the outside to beef everything up then reshaped to follow original profile.
    2. Down tube bosses added with cable guides on the side of the head tube.
    3. Cable-stop on the chainstay swapped.
    4. Internal brake cable into top tube.
    5. BB shell reamed and faced.
    6. Fork dropouts swapped.
    7. Alignment checked.
    8. Dent in underside of the top tube filled and repaired.
  • I watched this work being done on August's feed. Top notch workmanship 👍

  • . Removed at Po's request and his request only.

  • Sad news! What are you going to do? Will it live on?

  • Not something I would want to ride in current condition unfortunately and wasn't planning on sinking loads more cash into-had sent it to Geoff for some more braze ons and bottle bosses and maybe a simple respray but not new forks/tube replacement.

Po has kindly offered me a refund and I hope August behave similarly decently towards him.

  • Po is talking with us in email, privately, while reiterating his utter confusion at this situation because he "was/am extremely pleased with the work done to the frame."

  • This all sounds a bit odd to me reading this. I’ve known Gav for going on 6 years now. I’ve worked with him on a couple of projects and he has helped me out when I’ve been busy. His level of workmanship and knowledge is second to none. There is no way that Gav would ever let a frame/fork leave the workshop, repair or otherwise that was out of line or damaged. Gav is currently building me a frame and fork (no mates rates here) and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. I could have bought literally anything but I know that an August frame is made without compromise. Every time.

  • I don't know who you are but just to clarify: Po sent the frame directly to Roberts at my request. It's never touched my hands. Geoff signed for it, and it's Geoff's opinion on the state of the frame and quality of repair. He sent photos to support what he's said, and the forks are visibly bent, and top tube rippled, consistent with the nature of the original repair so I find it highly unlikely it has happened in transit.

But apparently I'm dishonest and LFGSS is "such an awful place"?

  • That's lovely. I'll take your one post on the forum into account. If I'm being asked to remove my comment, perhaps you should think twice about yours?

  • Yeah, just ask user103661 - they’ve been an active member of the community a while now... 👍🏻

I’ll come back when this is resolved - best of luck! Fingers crossed it all gets sorted and the bike rides again!

  • Yep followed his work for a while, and you must be very excited about the new frame. The attention to detail is amazing. I find this very odd as well. I dont understand why this is being discussed on a public forum without a reasoned private conversation taking place first?

I echo this. I have closed the thread to avoid further escalation.

  • I've seen the private response and while I'm happy to accommodate Po's request, I find automatically being accused of dishonesty and remarks about how awful this forum is deeply offensive to be honest.

Clearly you're a fan, that's fine, but given you know nothing about this perhaps you should just wind your neck in?
