Has anyone had their bike powder coated in a flat grey?
Thinking, primer-esq or Audi Nimbus grey.
Please let me see a photo, along with RAL.

So who's best for painting these days?
Something cheap and in London, gonna build up a commuter, probably bright pink. -

Perfect shade.
Mind sharing the RAL?

I actually dont think it was a RAL it was some other chart that armortex was testing. But I'm sure there is a similar colour available in RAL

I have a very nice classic frame with uber-thin curly lugs and want a single colour spray job that will do it justice. It has original paint that does the job and I have a Rick Powell frame which is just as tidy, both are prob stove enamel but they show it can be done. Recommendations?

I recommend leaving it as is - give it a good cleaning and ride it.

what @withered_preacher said, a gentle t-cut and some wax/polish unless there's some nasty paint loss that's not pictured. If possible original paint is best.
Otherwise Bob Jackson in Leeds will do a great job - one colour with decals will be something like £150. Vaz Finishes would be your other option whom I've not used but examples abound further up the thread (and on their website).
Looks like a lovely frame - I'm guessing a Harry Quinn or Geoff Clark?

Cheers. It's a 1954 Ellis Briggs. If I was putting any old kit on it I would leave as is but I have a mint Gran Sport groupset waiting.

I thought the lugs looked EB-ish but the heraldic headbadge confused me.
Here's my '53 Ellis Briggs Superbe re-sprayed by BJ*:
*I got it resprayed via Ellis Briggs but, unfortunately I'm not able to recommend going through them.

actually, this gives a better idea of the finish and colour.

Very nice. What have they used?

Royal Flamboyant Blue Enamel + a coat of lacquer (after the decals were added).

Looking to get a frame sandblasted and clearcoated, anyone had this done recently? How much was it, what was the turnaround and how has the finish held up?

Has anyone on here had Vaz do a fade for them?
-
• #1594
Less than that, but it was a two-frame combo job and a long time ago, on the back of him doing my tandem so I think he was feeling generous. He didn’t really enjoy the experience due to some paint woes but the fade came out looking spot on. No idea what he’d charge these days I’m afraid.

Has anyone had work done by Armourtex Cycles on Hackney Road and are they the same people that used to trade at Rowe lane e9?, thanks

Want to treat my Pompino to a new finish as current (stock) paint is looking pretty tired, been patched up with rattlecans by me as I’ve done various mods to the frame.
Was thinking powdercoat as it gets a lot of use and abuse in all weathers and I want a durable finish but wonder if I could get a decent result diy-ing it with spray.bikes cans or something.

They are not the same crew, no, the two guys behind that have retired.
The guys on Hackney road bought the brand. I went in to chat with them and they were very friendly, but the prices have risen significantly since I had a frame done at the old shop, and now the actual work takes place up in Enfield, so you don't speak to one of the people who will actually be doing it when you visit the shop and discuss your requirements.
I decided not to bother, so I can't say whether or not they are doing a good job, but I suggest treating them with caution / as newcomers. The rep built by the original crew shouldn't apply.

I got some fairly smart results with spray.bike (build thread: https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/326398/)
It was a relative pleasure to apply, and doing it myself was cheap and satisfying. However, it is absolutely nowhere near as durable as a traditional oven cured powder coat. I mean, like 10x less. I made a couple of small chips with tools while building it up (though I've added none that I'm aware of since, it's only been on the road a month or two and lives inside both at home and at work...)
I'm still super happy with it, but it's a fun thing to play with, to make a statement, or a great way to give your beater a fresh face every year, not a super-durable coat that will shrug off "a lot of use and abuse".

Of course, the flip side is that it's pretty cheap and straightforward, so when it gets tired, you just do it again! If you're going for a single flat colour, it's pretty trivial...
Another recommendation for Aurum. Frame and fork blasted, single RAL with lacquer for £108. Lovely finish and returned well protected with bubble wrap.
