Used BA last month with a bike bag, but there were a couple of others on the flight with bikes in shop delivery boxes - no problems with BA. Seemed pot luck as to whether they weigh it - but the 23kg is pretty generous.

Bike boxes are ok. Used them a couple of months ago and I also got email confirmation prior to the flight that their policy does include boxes. Think there's a thread about it though.

Used a my custom box box last month on BA. Was easy as always.
Mine weighed under 23kg but one of my mates like to push his luck every time and always gets away with it. his weighed 39 kgs on the way back and never got it weighed!

Thread revival.
Flying BA to Montenegro on Saturday and there is no way my bike & bag are going to be under 23kgs.
Has anyone flown with BA and a bike in recent years, if so, how did you get on?

You can load up on hand luggage, not sure what it’s like on shorter flights but the last time I flew with a bike I could take x2 23kg bags in the cabin. Panniers with tent went as hand luggage.

BA always used to be tolerant/lenient with 'sporting equipment'. Not certain if there is/was an option with your presumably online booking?

My box weighed in at 30kg on each trip - no extra charges - Phew!

My experience was that they just asked how much the box weighed (they suggested 12kg, I didn't argue..) at check in and it didn't matter it was well over 23

I've had the opposite experience. If it is over 23kg the guys at the oversized luggage suggest that you take out some heavy stuff to get it underweight.
They have been very nice about it but you'll end up with extra cabin bags or carrying your cycling shoes under your arm onto the plane.

Anyone have a bike case they would rent out for 3 weeks?

Same question here. Would need it from 14.2 - 4.3.
Anybody here taken a bike packed in a cardboard bike box onto a BA flight recently? Cant get hold of a bike bag and BA website says its ok in a bike bag but not a word about boxes...
