  • Walked to work this morning and ending up stalking a guy as I liked the way the passing cyclists and runners lit him up

  • Soooo... where's the line where that gets creepy and invasive? Cos if I was that guy I'd be livid.

  • It’s not an invasion of privacy - unlikely the fella would even recognise himself in those.

  • When you follow him to somewhere that is not public.

If you are in a public place you have no reasonable expectation of privacy in law.

  • Appreciate the law, but the thought of someone following me & taking a series of pictures makes me pretty uncomfortable. I feel like after a while the continued action-public place or not-becomes creepy.

  • He'll never even know that pics were taken of him.

  • that's good

  • Happens all the time in Street Photography, it's a public place.

It gets stalkery when you're following a specific person because of who they are. He could of been anyone and the effect would of been the same - just a shape in a photograph

  • I'd say it's not a problem as long as he didn't follow him home, or as some others say, to a non-public space.
I also think it matters that we can't see his face and that the pictures are not exploitative(?).

  • I'm really liking the atmosphere in these shots, but I feel like you could put further emphasis on that by cropping the pictures tighter.
I don't know if this is frowned upon on this forum, but I took the liberty of cropping an example.
IMO you pick up a lot more detail, like the fact that he seems to be shielding his eyes from the light, and the round orb of light contrasts nicely to the straight lines.

Cropping your own or other peoples photos? Either way shouldnt be frowned upon imo

  • Cropping other people's.
I'm very fond of cropping my own - especially when reviewing old work.

  • Not without asking first, really.

  • No problem with cropping the photos.

The crop looses the point where the af eventually decided to focus, but I like it, does make it a stronger photo. Cheers !

  • Sharpeness is grossly overrated ;)
    I'm glad you like it.

  • If someone thinks a photo might be improved by a certain crop I see no reason they shouldnt share it. Worst that can happen is that it sparks discussion
