if someone can tell me how much you can lose off asking price from not painting, £1k, £5k, £10k I’d have a reason to paint, or at least seriously think about it.

I'm not sure anyone is going to be able to give you a figure.
All I'm saying is I think your property would look more attractive to buyers if it has just been repainted.

Just paint the front door. It will give it that ‘fresh paint’ smell but will take a couple of hours and cost next to nothing in materials.

Well bearing in mind you are trying to sell your biggest asset, for the most money you can, I would say that a fresh lick of paint might be a good investment...
