It traditionally had a flat finish, it's only finished in Ans for the last 25 years or so.
The race had become formulaic, effectively a Milan-San Remo for those punchy climbers with a sprint, i.e. Valverde, Gerrans, Matthews, etc. Now those climbers without a sprint have got to think about where they make their move to get rid of the likes of Matthews and maybe even Sagan.
Look at the Amstel Gold, since they've moved the finish away from the top of the final climb it's become a much more dynamic and tactical race, and far more interesting to watch.
Wonder why they've made it flatter... LBL was interesting precisely because it had that finish. It seems they just want Milan San Remo v2
