Yeah. I can't bring myself to believe >£100 mudguards are worth it....
-
• #3978
Maybe they’ll last but who knows? They also hold a read pannier but yes too expensive.
Those Wald balloons are on uk amazon for pretty cheap but not shipping to Sweden unfortunately for me

The Velo Orange zeppelins are really good.... £50

There's also SKS Bluemels 75 U but 2.8s might be a bit too wide
Edit: I now see they're mentioned in the article posted on the previous page

About to buy Velo Orange Zepplin guards in black.
Can anyone confirm if they are any good?
Edit: 2 posts above @stedlocks which size tyres are you running underneath?

Anyone have any spare parts for Radial mudguards? specifically the bit that clamps onto the guard itself.. lost half of it. will add pictures later as I'm probably not making much sense.
-
• #3983
The stainless clamp that mounts onto the brake bridge? If so I have one.
-
• #3984
Yes I think I have
Edit: just email radial, they sent me out the spares free of charge even after they’d stopped selling the guards themselves. -
• #3985
Thanks, sent them an email
-
• #3986
If not though, pretty sure I've still got some spares if it is the bit that clips onto the guard at the end of the stays

Quite like the look of these. More coverage and compatible with big tyres compared to Raceblades. Easier to remove than full lengths.

Ok stupid question - can I use 53mm 700 guards on say 650x2.2 tyres?
-
• #3990
Is the bike designed for 700c or 650B?
You'd need a fair bit of vertical room for 53mm fender to clear a 2.2" tire, 10mm wider than the tire is the standard. -
• #3991
Thanks - it’s designed for 700c (sequoia). I’m just seeing the spec’d max clearance is only 47 on 650 (I have 42x700 currently so I’d have thought there was clearance for bigger)

Looking to set up guards on my Kinesis Tripster to run 650b WTB Horizons 47mm, What should I be looking for 700c or 650b guards, and what model? The frame is capable of both wheel sizes

Neither, I have 26" Velo Orange's (60mm) and they fit like an absolute dream on those tyres. Having come from Honjo 650 x 60mm fenders, I prefer the fit of the 26" VO's (but the quality of the Honjos is without peer).
Providing of course the Tripster can take 60mm wide fenders.

There is a noticeable quality improvement on >£100 mudguards, particularly the Honjos. They are absolute works of art production wise. However I find the VO's are absolutely acceptable (and prefer the fit of the VO's, as the Honjos have a much 'deeper' coverage), though do flex a tiny bit more than the honjos.

If you have ladida metal mudguards on your commuter do they not get squished and fucked up when you lock the bike etc etc?
-
• #3996
I just got some Raw mudflaps ordered. They have such an awesome website with customisable standard options, loads of sizes and a huge range of colours. Large, reflecto yellow pair coming for my 60mm GBs. Think I can live without all the various stripes you can add. Wicked!

Does anyone have experience of the SKS Edge AL guards?
Trying to work out if they are stiff enough for a dynamo light to be mounted on...
-
• #3998
they will most likely be shit, single stay and price point means the material will be flexy, if you are on a budget get GB, pain to install but work as well
-
• #3999
Girlfriend doesn't want silver guards sadly which rules out GB. Velo Orange are the next option
-

Velo Orange are the next option
great guards
If you find those walds available in EU please post a link.
They left out Pletscher R80 that I haven’t got round to ordering
