I do wish the reporting on Jasmin's landmark achievement (which is undeniably is), would tone down on the hyperbole and turn up on the actual reporting. It feels like the sentiment of what the record could symbolise, has somewhat overtaken what she's actually done.
I've seen so many different sources attach themselves to it, almost ahead of the actual celebration of the run. Which I know is slightly hypocritical, considering that I'm now giving my own 2p on the whole thing.I guess I just find the "Jasmin's record means [insert value here]" a bit tiring, and it makes me a bit sad - almost as if she's being pushed to the side of her own parade. Which is also ridiculous, considering how unbothered she seems by the praise in the first place!
Good piece in the Guardian on Jasmin Paris;
