Only found cycling specific. If you see a roll let me know.

Used to suffer quite a bit from saddle soreness (not open wounds). Went to a bike fitter, got a new saddle and new bibs. I used chamois creme for like 2 days on the TCR, then forgot about it and rode for 2 more weeks without any problems.
So getting a saddle measure/bike fit can also be a solution.

Any recommendations for a site to use to estimate journey times from a route, ideally taking account of elevation?

Found Strava route creator incredibly accurate within 30 minutes over 7.5 hours.
Although maybe just lucky.

Thanks. I was sure there was a website but I can't recall its name.
I want to compare two different routes, so that might not be accurate enough. -

I stopped paying attention to time estimates when i clicked on they dont factor in slowing down for instagram or when you cant open a mars bar.
Or tail/headwinds, getting a draft from a tractor, general cant be arsedness

My windsock is great if you know your cda, power etc, but even if you don't, you could use it to compare two routes with the same parameters.

Then when you've spent all your time finely comparing all your route options and get there you will find one route completely blocked by sheep and the other route doesn't exist at all it was just a planned road that was never built.

You can use this for comparing routes
http://bikecalculator.com/index.htmlIt doesn't have an option to take into account different surfaces, though!

Strava route time estimation is based on your average speed over the last 4 weeks. Would be great to be able to customize the value... but its usually good enough. When I need that I just use https://www.gpsies.com (attached screenshot)
You can verify this info just by placing your mouse over the estimated time and the interface will show you a label with the explanation and your average speed.

Jasmijn is doing great.
And that guy is a long way ahead. Are the rest slow, or is he fast!
-
• #2616
Yep
He was averaging 29kph after ~650k
Matthias appears to be dueling with someone at the moment and I'd expect Donnach to be further up but he might be being sociable :)
-
• #2617
That's more than I do for first 650km of tcr. Though this is shorter, so not paced the same. And perhaps flatter?
-
• #2618
It's only 1000k so you can go harder and I assume the roads are pretty good quality (save maybe the climb). How much climb did you have on day 1 of TCR? Think this has 4500m but it's most that big climb in the middle. Could also have favourable winds. Still a strong ride.
-

6500m in 24h
-

Lots of up/down whereas this seems like a couple of long climbs and then long descents, the big one in the middle, so probably less taxing on the whole, easier to pace. Then again maybe the profile isn't so accurate on this mapping thing?

Who knows. Just ahead by an impressive amount.

Yeah, be interesting to hear some rider reports afterwards.
I spoke to Donnach last year and thought about going over for this to get some tan lines but turns out I could just stay here and get them :)

Yes, he's miles ahead. Really strong ride.
He took a legal short cut, a rough track which was shorter but slower. Most went the long way round but a couple did the track and gained from it. I reckon they kind of need to decide if it is mandatory route or not.
last year people complained about wind on the early bits (but funnily enough didn't mention tailwind at the end!) -
• #2624
A short cut? Huh. Weird allowing that.

I thought about doing it last year but it seemed like a long way to go for a relatively short ride.
This length is different from the long ultras with much tighter racing, in the following pack at least. Probably make it quite stressful for the riders. Big benefit in trying to do it without sleeping like juliana did last year
I've used Reskin a few times and sometimes it's worked, relieving pressure on a raw bit, other times they've created more issues - they bunch up a bit and do more damage than if you'd left a wound alone.
