  • Regular controllers in driving games generally have some degree of automatic assistance to compensate for their deficiencies. Wheels allow things to be more realistic, but that doesn't necessarily mean easier.

Forza is also relatively arcadey so may be more suited to a controller.

  • Absolutely agree. I saw a video about it and was curious I hadn't seen any info then realised it was the game I played half a decade ago?

I'm not making excuses for them but it is now portable. New yoshi and metroid is encouraging too. And smash is great.

  • What the other guy said. Try it with a real driving game.

  • I refunded Assetto Corsa Ultimate on Steam yesterday cos it was hard and I'm not sure it was fun enough. I spent ages learning not to crash off into the gravel, won the Abarth race then realised I was going to have to go through the same thing again in the Alfa and just couldn't be arsed.

I might give it another go at some point but I'd buy the basic version and save the money: I realised after buying it I wasn't really bothered about all the DLC.

What's more fun and a bit more arcadey? P Cars? Forza?

P Cars 2 seems to get mixed reviews...

  • Should've tried the Lotus 49 for shits & giggles.

Old race cars are hard to drive...

  • i do find Forza 7 just the right balance, although the UI a little clunky in just simply restarting races and going though the single player stuff - it also could do with a shed load more tracks :-)

  • Realism scale:

    Forza Horizon
    Forza
    Project Cars
    Assetto Corsa

Quite enjoy the likes of Forza Horizon with a gamepad, but for more serious suff...

Triple montors have since been ditched in favour of VR. Center screen has been replaced with the ultrawide I bought before xmas and surround no longer works cos of the different resolutions.

  • i pee'd a little seeing that picture.......

  • I'm not making excuses for them but it is now portable.

This is the USP, I'm really enjoying playing it in my lap as opposed to on the TV...

  • It's great fun but a of a money pit. I justify it by keeping an eye on the actual cars thread, which puts my hobby into perspective. At the moment the whole thing is a bit botched together and creaky so I'm in the middle of planning a redesign...

The aluminium profile stuff is great, like mechano for (alleged) grown ups. Hopefully it'll make it easier to modify in future if necessary, like if I ever have the space for something like this.

  • X Box One. Rather than a headset, is there a way to use a microphone and retain audio through the television? I've tried simply plugging a microphone into the controller headset 3.5mm socket, but doesn't appear to work.

  • You can change it under audio settings I think...

  • i think it might be down to type of jack on the mic. see the 'standards for audio jacks' section here ->

    https://support.xbox.com/en-GB/xbox-one/accessories/connect-compatible-headset

the ground and mic bands are swapped so would need to be of compatible type.

  • Thanks for this. I'll try a CTIA mic, I have no idea what standard the one I have is.

  • Buy a headset, have it round your neck and use the mic, set noise to come out of telly, although it'll sound better through the headset. Just the shitty ones you get with your phone will work though.

  • Good suggestion, rustled up a pair of phone headphones and indeed they do work where my old mic didn't. They'll do for now.

  • Bought Cuphead yesterday, fearing the worst when I get stuck in tonight

  • Bought Cuphead yesterday, fearing the worst when I get stuck tonight

You will get stuck and die, and learn. Looks and sounds beautiful

  • Finally finished the full RDR2 story over the weekend, including the epilogue. Another deeply satisfying story, which tied everything up for me just like God of War. Might roam around a bit more now, which is something I didn't do with GoW because I was "done" with the game. Or I'll trade in for Horizon: Zero Dawn.

  • Does anyone know if the Resident Evil 2 remake has any significant changes?

Wondering if I should get it or just replay an old version to get my nostalgia fix.

  • @clockwise Apparently there's one new area to explore but the rest remains relatively true to the original.

@cmburns - good luck! Wonderful game.

  • Spent about 20 minutes last trying that bouncing ball thing, fucking hell it's hard

  • Speaking of bouncing ball...

Ever tried Road to Ballhalla? Love that game. Music really makes it.

  • And that’s one of the easiest ones!
