My Technics SL10 is fixed! Voltage regulator was gone. It cost half of what I knocked off the price to fix, so I’ve had a big win.
The tonearm was stuck through lack of use, so it would not have worked anyway, even if they didn’t fry it. That would have cost me another £65.
Happy days.

80s geek cool. I hope it sounds good.

Me too. I pick it up on Tuesday.
I hope to get that tiny pre/power combo for a demo this week, so I can compare. I might also try that ewa q20p into some of those Philips mfb jobbies for a low budget active set up.
So much for giving the hifi a rest...

This did cross my mind.
I have emailed about those Mono X amps, to see what trade in they would give me on my current power amp.
Main motivation is two have four silver boxes rather than two silver and one black. Oh and, yeah, power, ready for when I get some awesome Spendor or PMC speakers for Christmas.

I would ask this question on the Sonos community forum, you might get faster/ more useful info

I use my stero amp for movies as 90% of the time it's used for music.

Oh wow - now that's a question.
For both the amp and the speakers you may be best to pop into a store and give them a listen.
Out of the few I tried the Yamaha sounded best to my ears.
In terms of speakers I'd suggest you work out how much you can spend and work back from there, floorstanders, book shelves, there's an awful lot of choice. That's part of the fun!

Amp upgrade us a silly idea.
I'm much better off selling my B&W 602 s2s and CC6 centre speaker and putting that cash against something like these Spendor A6s.
Is anyone on here interested in buying my speakers?

@ChainBreaker what rears are you running in your AV setup?

They're too big for my space, unfortunately. Ideally want something under 30cm h and d.

Ah, fair enough.

I have a Boston Acoustics Sound ware XS5. 1 Home Theatre System. Small and sufficient for current needs. I'm desperate (read: not really, just want a new 0ne) AV Receiver. I suspect my next system will have to be a Sonos to make my gf happy.

Why not gain clone ;)

Am looking at either building my own valve amp...or making my own record players.

Think I might have some gainclone PCBs lying around somewhere. Also have one that I made in a very shonky case...
They do sound very good. -

Valve (power) amps scare me with their crazy high voltages....
DIY turntables are much less intimidating. I made a heavy plinth Lenco years ago from an L75. Idler drive ftw.

Building small gain clone amps was easy and fun. Have mentioned it before on here. Using dead cambridge audio a1's as they have a nice power supply and heat sink.
Have a pair of leak 20s, that I inherited that need some work to be safe for sure. So was thinking that I should leave them alone, as I doubt I will use them properly. So instead of replacing the wiring and then the power supplies I was thinking nice new russian valves and trying to recycle some old broken amps to scavenge for parts and making my own.
Record deck wise, was looking at the upgrading a systemdek so replacing the motor power supply then making the platter and arm 'float' then looking at arm upgrade from carbon fibre tubes..then you maybe have little left so how much more is it to make something.

They were my dads, and I have lots of fond memories of valves glowing in the dark listening to records. Brother took and sold the linn sondek.
They are big though. It will be s massive job convincing the enemy.
