If the main use is radio then get something with a radio. It's bloody annoying having to open an app, connect, select your radio station, etc as opposed to just pressing a button on a remote or the unit itself.

I'm looking to upgrade my current system (Rega RP1 perf pack, KEF Q7 and Yamaha AS501) to something a bit better, spending around £5k. Can anyone recommend a dealer they trust? I'd be up for building a system up myself, but trawling forums is only adding to my confusion.
I'm in E9, but would happily travel most places in London

The streaming through the yamaha is a piece of cake, we've now got 3 yamaha amps set up throughout the house and spotify is just a single click, as are most of the functions.
On the RN803 you'd need a separate CD player - https://www.richersounds.com/yamaha-cds300-blk.html that model has optical out the 803 has optical so you could hook it up that way.
If space is a premium you may want to look into a smaller amp, I picked up the WXA50 - a smaller network player just before Christmas and it's no bigger than a couple of dvd cases. In your case it also has optical out so again could be hooked up to the TV.

Cheers, dude. Yes it's a strong contender, assuming it sounds good. Heard good things about the Yamaha Musicast multiroom. I've heard Yamaha amps can be a bit bright. Anyone have speaker recommendations for this amp?

This has been my thinking in the last day.

Is it possible to easily switch between surround and using just the Ones as a stereo pair? Without ungrouping every time?

The real home audio question.... Welcome
(can one do cinema AND stereo? Can one do 5.1 AND 2? I love both movies AND music)

We are looking at having a home cinema/listening room.
Went to Sevenoaks hifi with my wife to audition speakers and av amps last weekend. Prior to the visit she was unsure of what difference components could make. However Monitor Audio silver and B&W speakers did not get seal of approval, however Kef R5 did. Yamaha processors did not pass muster but the Nad 777 v3 has been given the thumbs up. The Nad also has a great streaming processor and can then be used to fee music to other rooms in the house using my old AV receiver.
Will use my old Mordaunt Short floorstanders as rear speakers. The Mordant Short centre speaker is probably to poor to bother using given how nice the R5s are. My old BK Electronics sub woofer will be used too.
Plastering in that room commences in a few weeks so just need to install cables for Atmos set up and long term can add in overhead speakers, centre speaker etc.
Lesson learned is that going shopping with my partner is a dangerous thing. But we will have a system with strong components and a clear upgrade path.

AV receivers have moved on... A lot... Does yours do HDCP 2.2? Planning on watching 4K? Youll need it. ATMOS? You'll need it.

This is why we will get the Nad 777 v3as the main av amp.
And just use the old av amp for ceiling speakers in other rooms in the house.

If it's a dedicated room, then room treatment would be well worth factoring in. It can have a huge impact on sound.

The amp has Dirac room processing as standard

Sadly, no. You'd have to ungroup, then regroup and probably (if you are finickity) re tune the surround sound.
I have not ever done it, for obvious reasons.

Sellotape!!!
Did it work?

Can anyone recommend somewhere for HiFi repair in London (close to Islington)?
I have a Sonos Play 5 Gen 1 which has just died after pretty limited use.
It’s 3.5 years old and out of its 2 year warranty so Sonos are not interested in helping.
I feel it should last more than 2 years and I should be covered by the Sale of Goods Act 1979 but for this I’d like an independent report on what’s failed with it.
So, anyone know of anywhere in London that would be helpful for this?
A few places I’ve spoken to seem to say that they just send these things back directly to Sonos and Sonos don’t even give them circuit diagrams/info that would allow them to investigate.

I am trying to convince myself (and Sarah) that it didn’t work so I can purchase some of the beovox MS150

Great stuff, thanks - will hit him up
The Genelecs are decent entry level studio monitors, there are loads around 2nd hand for reasonable money. They need XLR connections and IEC power connectors, there is little to no modern streaming orientated stuff.
Libratone might be worth looking at. With children around and the room layout you are probably not going to get away with a proper hifi setup that can survive anyway.
I have 5 libratone in the house for general use and it's not terrible. You can move them into the garden in the summer on battery power and have a stereo pair outside.
Of course apple home pods etc. are similar.
