I'd seriously recommend something like the RN803 which will do everything you want, then pair it with a couple of passive speakers, possibly one near that table on the left (to avoid collisions!) and the other near the tv.
The 803 will mean you can add a CD player into the mix easily too, I'm pretty sure it'll have an optical input too.
Looking for some advice for my situation to achieve the best compromise for this space. We've tinkered at the low end of hifi before - Cambridge Azur, Wharfedale Diamond, various Marantz players. Almost all music now from Spotify but Mrs2wheels would like to retain the ability to play CDs if poss.
Have no real need for surround - would be happy with a modest stereo set-up - but struggling with equipment and placement in this room, so was thinking of the Sonos Beam/pair of Sonos One solution proposed by @mashton up thread - but for both music and telly. Thoughts?
Other option is something like the Yamaha RN803D in that TV unit and some passive speakers, but where would I put them in this arrangement? Have two kids under 6 so wouldn't want a stand to the right of the TV unit. Either side of the fireplace might be possible but they'd be quite close together and v close to the wall.
Another option is an all-in-one jobby from Ruark, Revo, Naim etc - but putting that in the TV unit would murder the sound so it would need to live elsewhere and run a wire to the TV - sub ideal.
Any insights greatly appreciated. Best sound/convenience for my £1k budget.
