• Before I entered I had a discussion with my wife. She was happy for me to do it - if she had any reservations, I'd have dropped the idea.

    My parents are up for coming down. But they are getting on a bit, so the other option is to combine that with some early-evening help from the people at my daughters' nursery. They are generally up for baby-sitting and my daughter knows them already, so she should be comfortable with them.

    My big fear is that my daughter gets annoyed with me for being away for an extended period, which she may well do (also a bit worried about missing out on a couple of weeks of her growing up).     It's all a balance. Sometimes dad rides across countries, and sometimes he stays at home and cooks dinner. Probably the most useful thing to do is try to encourage your wife to spend time on her own stuff, so she can be a role model too, and not turn into a resentful crazy lady.

    Could do with a couple of extra months in the year, though.
