  • Took some time but it’s not so surprising

  • dragon soup night is never a dull night

  • is this the weirdo that was mentioned on this thread?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gy7Rd7OQd-0

  • Can't believe this guy had a kid and took the paternity leave to do pro-cycling cosplay!

  • No, he's not failed any tests to the best of my knowledge.

  • cool, I think this was the comment I was referring to on p303

If he's not doing anything naughty it's quite amazing to see him finishing above 70 odd elite riders at his age... unfortunately the "pas normal" bell is still ringing loud and clear.

  • I think that comment was aimed about Arlen Vartazarian, the 50yr old hitter smashing it out of the park early season. He's sadly 'retired' from his hobby, he had a party to celebrate.

  • This is the guy that was widely assumed he was either on the juice, or had a motor in his bike. As far as I know he has openly admitted using steroids when he was body building.

  • Why would you have your best year on the bike and then retire?

  • Because you learnt from Lance’s mistakes...?

  • There is that, quit while you are ahead

  • It seems that he had a kid, and has scaled back his riding.

Although almost immediately after this BC test surfaced he packed racing in [emoticon chin scratch]

  • And his 'team director' also decided to 'retire' from running both team and business that sponsored said vanity project

  • Well coincimental.

  • "USADA also found one of the supplements Grove was taking contained the banned substance clomiphene, though that substance did not show up in Grove’s test at Nationals."

    I didn't know that.

I'm conflicted. First I thought "fuck him" then it was contamination and I thought "well that's not great but it's the rules" now I see his taking supplements with banned shit I'm back to "fuck him". How would the previous record holder feel about the guy beating him having two banned substances in his system, contaminated meat or not? Contador didn't get a free pass for it.

"Cusick says he had warned Grove multiple times against taking supplements"

  • now I see his taking supplements with banned shit

The "banned shit" was a contaminant, not a listed ingredient. In general, you're more culpable for contaminated supplements than for contaminated food, because there are well established systems in place to allow athletes to source supplements of certified purity, but there's still no evidence that he deliberately doped. I haven't even seen any evidence that he definitely got one of the contaminated batches of supplement.

  • Contador didn't get a free pass

Grove didn't get a free pass. The performance on the day he tested positive was struck from the record. The previous record holder is still the current record holder.

  • I haven't even seen any evidence that he definitely got one of the contaminated batches of supplement.

    That article isn't clear.

"USADA also found one of the supplements Grove was taking contained the banned substance clomiphene"

Did his supplement -brand- test positive or his actual tub of whatever shit he was taking test positive? It's quite possible he had taken the supplement with the banned ingredient in it but not tested positive for it.

  • That's my point. He shouldn't get one, why should I feel any different because the guy is old?

  • It's quite possible he had taken the supplement with the banned ingredient in it but not tested positive for it

Yes, that's possible. There's a lot of information missing from the media reports, such as when he used that particular supplement, whether the batch which was tested was the same as the one he used, and whether the contamination was systematic or sporadic.
