  • "USADA also found one of the supplements Grove was taking contained the banned substance clomiphene, though that substance did not show up in Grove’s test at Nationals."

    I didn't know that.

I'm conflicted. First I thought "fuck him" then it was contamination and I thought "well that's not great but it's the rules" now I see his taking supplements with banned shit I'm back to "fuck him". How would the previous record holder feel about the guy beating him having two banned substances in his system, contaminated meat or not? Contador didn't get a free pass for it.

"Cusick says he had warned Grove multiple times against taking supplements"

  • now I see his taking supplements with banned shit

The "banned shit" was a contaminant, not a listed ingredient. In general, you're more culpable for contaminated supplements than for contaminated food, because there are well established systems in place to allow athletes to source supplements of certified purity, but there's still no evidence that he deliberately doped. I haven't even seen any evidence that he definitely got one of the contaminated batches of supplement.

  • Contador didn't get a free pass

Grove didn't get a free pass. The performance on the day he tested positive was struck from the record. The previous record holder is still the current record holder.

  • Contador didn't get a free

Contador didn't get a free pass because WADA, and ultimately CAS, didn't believe that food contamination was the true story. Many other athletes have stood up the food contamination story with much more convincing evidence and have been cleared of any ADRV.
