Kind of seems like a production version of Obree's Old Faithful. And with a derailleur!!
-
• #60605
Thats so cool
-
• #60606
To approach this from an Obree engineering perspective, this reproduction misses alot of the benefits that Old Faithful provided:
-The bottom bracket looks like a standard square taper rather than a super narrow q factor bb.
-The downtube/ bb area looks a tad thin.
-Rear chainstays do not inspire confidence.
I would still buy though if it was cheaper/ a fixie. -

Professional rider's bike Pinarello Banesto 1997:
Link to ebay deleted , against the rules , sorry !
-
• #60608
"finds"
I'm curious – did that bike belong to Ulrich, Virenque or Pantani?
-
• #60609
The welding CLEARLY shows that is a VERY LOW end frame - no "pro" (or even a keen amateur) would be seen dead on it.
-
• #60610
I wonder HOW MANY rider's bikes have you ever seen.....
-
• #60611
would be seen dead on it.
Wouldn't*
-
• #60612
What a crap. Aluminium welds look(ed) like that.
-
• #60613
Welds in the 90's were notoriously bad, doesn't suggest a low end frame to me! It's all aesthetic
-
• #60614
Gotta say, what part of the welding do you mean specifically? Because here for example is the welding of a P3SL Cervelo (aluminium), which once upon a time was a top TT frame:
The welds on the Pinarello look maybe a tiny bit irregular in one or two spots, but it's not really that bad.

I reckon matey's broken the rules and put his own eBay listing up given he was trying to sell a Pinarello from Spain two weeks ago
-
• #60616
Oh yeah, I think so too. Just not sure what hating on the welds is accomplishing, it's such a specific thing.

Apols, not aware own listings were not allowed. Admin can delete the post, sorry for any incinvenience. BUT the bike is another one...
-
• #60618
I have a burning question about the bike tho mate. Did it belong to Jan Ullrich, Richard Virenque or Marco Pantani?
-
• #60619
None of them. Abraham Olano

updated my original post and deleted the link, hope this is enough, otw the admin can step in... again, sorry for any inconvenience.

Cheers, I feel the listing could be improved by making it really clear which professional cyclists did not ride it.

That's what aluminium welds look like, smooth welds are the result of filler.
Certainly looks like a legit team bike. -
• #60623
smooth welds are the result of filler.
Actual question on this - is sanding the welds down an option too? For a manufacturer, I mean.
-
• #60624
yes. Cannondale used to do it on its earlier frames (nineties).

As the one who kicked the hornets nest...
I mocked the welds, because I thought user87910 was promoting his own sale; maybe I should have just asked.
I've been buying, selling, riding bikes for 50yrs, so I've seen the 7005 etc, frames of the 70-80's. I still say that level of "pigeon shit" welding has no place on a "quality" thin-walled alloy tubing. To an experienced eye, it's a million miles away from the Cervelo at the top of the page.
