Ooops, I didn't mean to exclude anyone, please consider all genders included?!

Not sure I like the 'sanctimonious' tag?
You're right, I think naivety is more your thing.

It is a method of braking but its not an actual brake is it?
What is a brake? So many different methods are available, using various mechanisms. The most common (friction, fluid viscosity, electric dynamo) ultimately rely on the electromagnetic force, but there are limited applications for using the gravitational force as a brake. Maybe a grand unification theory will make the distinction moot. At the engineering level, the variety is so great that we should probably just accept that if it brakes, it's a brake.

People are messing with you because for some reason mild hazing of new people on this forum is tolerated. Especially if they are so bold as to come on here with opinions about bikes.
Nearly everyone on here is well aware you need a front brake in the UK. People who don't use them cannot be persuaded to start by internet comments, especially if they're still doing it after the Charlie Alliston case. The "debate" about front brakes has been had many times on the forum. That's why no one is taking you very seriously.

Yeah right, velodrome near me doesn't they just give you toe straps.
-
• #16882
Where has 'genuine' come from, it's just about safety and common sense... and a touch of legality!

• #16883
Which velodrome is that, all of the indoor tracks offer all of the kit so far as I am aware?
-
• #16884
Indoor? lol

Obvious troll was obvious a page ago. Now off you pop Poppit, back to lecture knitting on handbag.com

Ah, but what fun....... ;)

Jokes aside, that's the point of this discussion?
@user96935 is technically right, still no one likes to hear it. He won't convince anyone, nor will anyone convince him. He is skidding for over 40 years now after all
Same shit everytime -

we should probably just accept that if it brakes, it's a brake.
Then so it is. Incorrect assumption on my part thinking user24876586p234234 was implying 2 brake calipers were required

You can't skid that long without needing new pants.
-
• #16890
Yes, but you still need two ;)

mild hazing of new people
I don't think I ever experienced this and probably most members don't.
When someone like @user96935 wades in to anywhere like this, doesn't bother to do more than a perfunctory browsing of posts, totally misjudges the tone of the place and starts telling people off they're not going to be given much of a warm welcome.

you still need two ;)
The current chat over on TTF is that you really need three, even though the legal minimum is two 🙂

That's because we don't like you 🙂

The only reason I value anyone's opinion on here tbpfh

I still get hazed.
But then I know people don't like me. I'm ok with it -
• #16896
You're quite right, it's a little bit foolish to jump straight in with your opinions without doing a bit of lurking. But some of the abuse dished out in response goes way beyond what is proportionate (pretty mild in this case but there are plenty of times where people have been told they should leave the forum etc. in the past). Better off muting or letting the person know they've got the tone wrong I think. But then, I'm a newbie 🤷♂️
I don't mean to criticise anyone in particular. Just want people to think about why it is they respond in this way and whether that response is justified. "It's always been this way" or "it happened to me" are not good reasons to continue doing something.

Well thank you all for a most enlightening and very amusing morning.......
Just one last thought for you to chew on....
It is a very small step for the 'powers that be' to ban fixed wheel on the road in the light of the Charlie Alliston case! Most Policemen consider fixed wheel to be unsafe and something from the 19th century so it would be very easy for them to take away our 'toy' unless you 'skidders' think ahead and make a small compromise and add a brake! You know it's safe and I know it's safe.... but that doesn't mean that those with the power will understand........over to you?? -

References please otherwise this is unsubstantiated hyperbole
Doesn't matter does it? You're here to tell naughty brakeless scamps off and make yourself feel important. Why do you care if people are being genuine or not?
