The wooden fire surround is original to the house. It has had additional bits added by previous owners. I moved it from the dining room to the front room. The cast iron inert from ebay.
I made the doors in traditional tenon and mortise style myself using an assortment of junkshop tools.

The panel moulding was made with a 200 year old Griffiths of Norwich plane:
It took about 6 hours to make the moulding for those two doors. It's much easier to buy panel moulding ready made. -

That's an amazing amount of work. You'd scarcely believe it's the same room.
Craftmen/women thread material, never mind home diy.
You based in Norwich too?

And where are the speakers hidden??

Yes, I'm in Norwich. The speakers are tilted upwards behind the sofa.

Good shout on the planes. I've got quite a few of them but I'm always picking them up when I see them for reasonable money. They work so well.
For support between the shelves I had imagined pieces of board just the right size to slide in between the shelves, then you can make different sections for the vinyl. I've found the problem with a metre of unsupported vinyl is it makes it harder to get records in and out. I've heard that it can warp them but don't have any evidence in my own collection.

What's a good internal door brand for price:quality? Single panel/flat, primed, and ideally with large stiles and rails for trimming as a few are odd sizes. Thanks.

heat detector for kitchen
Be very careful on the placement of these.
My folks can't grill anything unless both fans and door are open without setting theirs off.

For that does it also need to be < 12-in. from the wall if you're mounting on the ceiling? Or anywhere?

Sidewall
Interesting as I thought that was generally a no-no. But I guess it's placed quite close to the ceiling.
-
• #16469
it's close enough that the descending smoke/heat layer will activate it in good time.
