  • try mustard too?

There must be some logic but I have no idea what.

  • I'm £800 fully comp, track days and european driving, for both cars, with free AA cover thrown in.

  • Whats your risk factor for you postcode though? Beyond a certain age and NCB that seems to be the biggest factor in insurance costs.

  • It's massively annoying. I'm with Admiral (or Elephant, I forget). Try giving them a ring - the past couple of years I've had a renewal price increase, but after a five minute call they knock it down to below what it was.
It's such an annoying waste of effort and obvious con.

  • South East London? High, I would imagine.

  • Once I take this with Churchill, I'll be at ~£700 for both, which I'm quite happy with.

No trackdays or AA cover though, but I get AA cover through my Halifax bank account.

  • I'm F* .... Highest risk there is.

  • Based on experiences described on Pistonheads I don't want to be with Admiral/Elephant, it's just they offer reasonable prices for people with 0 or low NCB. My 10+ years is on the MX5, so I've been starting again with the 2nd car, I've now hit 3 years which gives a decent discount, but also seems to open up more insurers.

If I was in your shoes, I wouldn't want a nice classic like that insured with Admiral any longer than I had to be with no other option. They've been known to quibble over non-declared optional extras, and if you try and declare them, they count them as modifications and load the premium.

So I'm quite happy to move to Churchill.

  • I wouldn't want a nice classic like that insured with Admiral

I'm chiming in halfway through this, so sorry if I've missed something. Is it old enough it qualify for classic insurance? My Dolly used to cost almost nothing to insure through Footman James.

  • me too.

the in laws are b - maybe i need to put my cars in their name

  • classicline are good for classics and they include track days

  • Funny you say that as it's what i did last year too

i actually phoned them up to say i was leaving because it was too expensive, they asked me if i had other quotes so i told them the best quote i had. They ended up undercutting it and including breakdown cover so it ended up being significantly cheaper and less faff.

  • This is quite interesting, it looks like i moved from an F* to E* when i moved two years ago.

  • Yeah, I think it's a bit out of date and I think that sub post codes can have an effect as well, but it's pretty eye opening the difference. A few years ago I played around with quotes based on my current location Vs an A rated one and I think it was the difference between 800 year and 200 year.

  • leftfield but very interesting choice! well specced and practical but they do seem to hold their value very well - more pricey than I would have expected.

  • What tyres should I get, boyz and gurls?

The car was free so happy to get spendy on some nice touring tyres that will look after me in all conditions... We're talking tropical heat and torrential monsoon conditions...

  • yeah I won't be sticking with them long term. but one of the few places I could classic car insurance from without having another car as my 'main car'. spoke to quite a few of them but none would accept push bike as my main car ;-)

though actually on that note I am also toying with buying a little runabout to live at my mums so I can be taxi on my monthly visits as well as throw my bike in the back to get some miles in the wider area when up in the shires. I will then have a 'main car' albeit a piece of shit. will be interesting to see how that opens up insurance options.

  • yeah its a 1976 fiat. i have classic insurance. but Adrian flux, footman james, etc. won't do it if not owning a 'main car'

  • you'd probably be able to buy a bunky for the amount saved in insurance

  • Category A here. Mwahahahha.

  • Aah - that's changed since I owned then I think. That's pretty annoying of them.

  • Anybody have experience living with a high mileage (140k) Sierra cosworth?

I’ve been offered one at a stupid low price and it’s a car I’ve always been interested in but I still Can’t really afford to buy it.

  • How low is low? It's going to be fucked, right?
