Took another route into work today (felt lucky this morning and just let garmin do the routing). Was fun taking another route but don't see myself taking this one every time. Will definitely tweak my current route though, commuting can be more fun.

I keep meaning to get cameras but I'm shit at making consumer choices and have decided to wallow in indecision instead.

No, kinda the opposite. Instead of retaliating after a dick move, I just carry on and then report the dickheads to the police.
More people should use them so they'd stop running lights if they knew that ~2min of footage was now useless :)
It also proved without a doubt I had nothing to do with the woman who ran into me. I was legit worried that I'd done something wrong but nope I was solid as a rock and now... £££

Easy. Fly6. Done
If you want front as well, I got Apeman cameras for like £25ea

Apeman cameras
Interested in this, which model would you recommend where the footage is good enough to actually make out number plates etc.?
The fly6 seems great, but it appears to be >130 and I can't quite justify the expense yet.

Well I submitted a night front-cam video last night from one of these:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01N3Q4DLS/I paid ~£80 for the old Fly6. One insurance claim makes that £80 seem like nothing. If you get tagged and then have no evidence of it, it's your word against theirs and we all know who the courts and public like to rain shit down on.
There are Chinese copies of the Fly6. My missus has one from someone on here for £10.
Maybe take this to Helmet Cam thread?
EDIT: £81 it was from Sigma Sport

Cheers, I'll have a look for cheaper copies. I just wanted to ask you specifically since you mentioned it.

I looked at the Fly6 and my wallet told me to go fuck myself. The Apeman seems more like the kind of thing I can get along with.
-

the fly6 copy was sold at aldi. don't think they do them anymore but they do come up on ebay it seems.
apologies for continued thread derail.
back on topic: i got the tube instead of cycling today and someone used my foot as a suitcase rest. i imagined all the snipey things i might say to them but in the end said nothing.

👍
Yeah see that's what my wallet told me too.
Also back on topic: I was way too happy on my morning commute, went up the hill without too much huffing and puffing, felt comfortable, and had lots of green lights. Kind of worried of having a bad crash now because in my experience, it always averages out...

I only bought mine because it was down from 120 to 80 and even then I felt dirty doing it. But it did remove a lot of potential hassle from my rear-ender. Without the footage, she could've tried it on and said I moved over without indicating or something. Apeman seems ok for the money. Had to buy another mount for it because the stock ones are massive. It is a bit annoying having to charge all the time since they don't last as long as a bike light but it's USB so I can just plug it in at work/home not too much drama.

Had an off last night, caused by a lump of dry cement in the middle of a road. No one else involved (quiet road), and I have it on my fly6. No major injuries to me or the bike (on first inspection at least) but I smashed my phone landing on my back. I'm annoyed because it's on my commute and I have clocked them before, but forgot this time.
I'm going to write to the council to complain as it is clearly a road defect (I'll go back to measure and photograph it tomorrow), and I want it fixed. My question is: what are the chances of the council paying up for my damaged phone?
I gather with potholes they can be liable for damage, at least to cars and bikes, depending on inspection regimes etc. While it was a lump, not a pothole, it clearly shouldn't be there and is visible in streetview as far back as 2014.
Any tips on how to proceed?

No tips / experience of how to proceed but my understanding is that it is cheaper for councils to pay out for claims than it is to fix the roads.
Also, I think their liability increases, if the fault has been previously reported and they've done little / nothing about it.
Hope you are intact.
Good luck. -

A claim is based on whether the council is negligible. If the lump is perceived as a fault and has been previously reported but no action taken, then you'll be paid by their insurer.
Report it and give it a try.

Don’t forget all that other stuff that was in your pocket that also got broken..................
-
• #25742
Additions to the surface are not the councils responsibility according to case law. Or was when I last checked.
You should still report it though, might make get a move on.

• #25743
That's interesting. It's pretty clear where the cement comes from, what with there being a cement works about 40 yards down the road...
-
• #25744
You know, I think I may have to get a camera - police came back with a “sorry, not the full number plate so we can’t do anything. Sorry you were assaulted” disappointingly, so maybe a small clip on camera I put on my bag strap? Would that work?
Shame it has to come to this!

• #25745
Might be a hassle, but any cctv around there? I gather from others comments on here you may be able to request it?

Joyous commute in today. Usually my route starts in E17 where the majority of Lea Bridge road users drive like dicks, and a fair number of cyclists are not much better. Long cut to avoid most of it, then quietway, then an unusually relaxed finish through the Aldgate
clusterfuckgyratory.Will ride again.

Delivering someone else's bike today. First time in years commuting in London on 'full-size' wheels. Felt weird and loads slower off the lights.
Missed my granny shopper biek this morning/10

Monday was 6° and I was so warm I stopped halfway to strip off and get my arms out.
Today was 5° and my fingers and toes were frozen and no possible way I'd consider taking a layer off.
Stupid temperatures. -

Check out Accuweather or Darksky for the Realfeel temperatures, helps figure out what gloves I should be wearing day to day.

Really really looking forward to the gas works on Rye Lane continuing until 2020.

do you find you get more close passes etc. since having cameras?
i used one for a while, but ultimately stopped using it... i'm not sure if it made me more aggressive / confrontational as a rider, or whether i just noticed bad drivers more as i was subconsciously looking out for them to capture them on film...
i think it made me more 'zen' after stopping using it.
