  • 10-11sp conversion
(In an Ideal world) I need to convert my 10sp Roval Rapide SL35 to 11sp compatible.
What are my options - can it be done?
    A) File away the bit that 'acts' in the same way as a spacer. If fairly careful should the cassette fit no problem?
    B) Buy a Roval 11sp Freehub body (can someone point me in the direction of the correct one? - not sure which is compatible with the Rapides).
If I can change the freehub body, is it as straightforward as changing just the body without touching internals/removing axle etc.
Hope you don't mind me tagging @Howard in this.

    Many thanks in advance

  • On the printer chat, what is the best type of printer to get for minimal use (printing once or twice a month at most probably).

My current inkjet seems to struggle when it's not been used for a while and I have to replace the cartridges.

  • Got an HP desk jet 2630 for £20 on Amazon - use it every cpl weeks and so far so good.
Bit of a lump but connects wirelessly etc - for a score, I can't grumble

  • Also interested in micro printer for MINIMAL usage.

    Also:
    credit card application.
I made one, it was rejected. I think because I missed off (by mistake not deliberate) my wife's income.
    should i
    appeal it
reapply to them (how long to wait)
reapply elsewhere (how long to wait)
    ?

    ta

  • You can file the freehub body if there is enough material left afterwards.
You can machine a 11s cassette to fit on your 10s wheels
you can buy a shimano 11s mountain bike cassette which will fit 10s road

  • Shimano CS-HG800-11 is an Ultegra level 11 speed 11-34 cassette with the same base width as 8/9/10/mtb11.

  • @PhilDAS and @Emyr
So any shimano 11sp MTB cassette will fit on the Roval 10sp shimano freehub? (do they do a 28T else would need to factor in new rd etc)?
Other option Phil is essentially file this bit away?

Thanks both, really educational and much appreciated

May I ask what you'd do in this situation, if it was required....and you were skint?

  • I spoke to a guy who @umop3pisdn suggested to me. He machined a cassette down for me for the price of postage and a donation to a charity of his choice

  • I don't know how wide your Roval freehub is but 11s mtb is the same width as 10s. 11s road is wider. That HG800 has the smallest granny gear of the 11s cassettes that will fit the narrower (not 11s road) body.

I'm using a 6870GS mech on an 11-40, think the max is meant to be 32. Works fine but my frame has the longer mtb-spec gear hanger so i'm fine without a goatlink or b-screw adjustments.

See what mechs are available on eBay.

  • I have a set of 165mm track cranks but the left arm spindle is damaged,
I have found a replacement but the arm is 170mm long

Would there be a considerable difference in 5mm?
I am using pedals with cages.

    Thanks

  • Don't do it.

  • how come?

it’s so hard to find a 165mm left octalink arm 😭

  • So I got an old frame (Cervelo P3-SL) recently and discovered there is some kind of a (very) thin brass insert in the seatpost. Is this likely to be there to solve slipping issues (seller is not reachable at this point, so I can't ask him right now), or would there be any other reason for using this? I've never seen anyone do this before, so I'm not sure what to think. Protection of the carbon seatpost from scratches from the rougher inside of the aluminium tube?

Should I keep using this as it clearly worked before, or should I try using it without it first and see what happens?

  • This would be ideal (especially if he agreed to machine it each time I changed cassette!!). Trying to sell (very cheaply) the 10sp Rovals on here to save the faff and get some new hoops but if they don't go may/will have to try some of these suggestions.

    Many thanks

  • Thanks, the rear part of the brass sheath looks like that (where it's 'doubled up'), but I don't think it was meant to be there - this is certainly not a 'flippable' seatpost, so I think that's not the same model (I think the modern P3 has a flippable seatpost?).

  • Should I keep using this as it clearly worked before

Yes. If a Cervelo seat post is holding its position, it's best not to change anything 🙂

  • @mdcc_tester @umop3pisdn

Ah perfect, thanks a lot, problem solved then - I was not aware that this was 'a thing' at all :)

  • This would be ideal (especially if he agreed to machine it each time I changed cassette!!)

Somebody on TTF offers Ultegra cassette milling on a more or less commercial basis, IIRC about £40 a go. You can probably work out from that whether it's better to keep getting cassettes milled or to take the one-off hit of changing your wheels.

  • A one-off purchase of an inverse shim would be cheaper.

  • Try it, you will notice it and you won't like it. It's like running with only one shoe on.

  • I have just changed from my very old Samsung xpress to a Brother HL-1210W.

  • no scanner and no wifi

    and no laser

  • I have just changed from my very old Samsung xpress to a Brother

I have spent so much time in the meme thread I now always read "bröther" instead of brother.

Serious though - is the printer any good?
Any reason you did not get another Samsung?
