Thanks, all. Will see how things go in a couple of hours :-)

Took me 4 goes I think it was.
Wasn't having a new turbo trainer the main reason for that?
-
• #1029
Yep. First go not sure I calibrated it properly.
Then an over optimistic first ftp setting. Got there in the end though :-) -
• #1031
Ramp tests are easy. It's the workouts after you set a higher FTP that suck.

This should be all sorts of fun then

Depends how high you get your FTP set after the ramp. I reckon most people make big jumps on their ramps once they're more familiar with the test, so the FTP makes reasonable jumps too. I'd have to login to see that plan but to be honest I quite like the TR workouts whereas coachypoos just loves setting 2x20s for me, which take more mental effort to hold than say over/unders or other variations. I mean, even if the wattage is the basically the same, just knowing there's a change, like any change, in 2min makes the workout chunked and psychologically easier for me. Maybe other people find that, maybe not?

I've got 2x20s again tonight :(

This is the first time I've done a TrainerRoad plan, despite having used it on & off for about 6-7 years. I've always preferred choosing workouts as I go, but this time just wanted something to fill the gap until the beginning of March, where I'll hopefully head outside and do more event specific stuff.
Not having to think about what workout I should do has already removed some of the mental strain, so that's good.

• #1036
Yeah, even though I have a training plan I still set TR up with one of its own plans, so that if I cut something short or miss an outdoor ride I will see that and maybe do the TR planned workout instead.

Out of curiosity, should I be expecting very close to max hr at the point of failure? And if not,
do I need to htfuhas something gone wrong? -
• #1038
Jumping straight in at high volume! Have fun with that.

Amen to this. Started turbo training after testing yesterday, this morning was brutal. Another three months of the attached.

My last which saw an increase of 8-10% topped out at 148%
Edit; ooos thought you were saying max hour, I’m guessing you mean heart rate
-
• #1041
I've got this coming up at the end of June, so need to shock myself out of winter lethargy, I think. https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/321914/
-
• #1042
148% of max heart rate would be quite something :D
-
• #1043
Erm, not really but you might get close. Normally you'd get near to max HR just 'after' the effort. Do what I do and stop using HR straps (actually gone back to using one on the turbo only but I don't really pay attention to HR) :)

Two fans? Fucking luxury!

That's 6 months. You'd be better off building up sensibly rather than panicking and throwing yourself into a hole where you end up tired as fuck in March.
Doesn't that power build have all kinds of VO2 shit in it? I'd save that stuff for way later.
-
• #1046
Just ride over tram tracks in Melbourne...
-
• #1047
Yeah, maybe you're right. There's definitely an element of panicking going on :-/
Think I'll dial it back to the mid-volume, and see how that goes.
-
• #1048
I can't be heading off to train in these exotic locations....
-
• #1049
Just thinking about 2h turbo sessions makes me wince...
-
• #1050
I'm just thinking about my 24hr builds and I was doing fuck all now.
Good to know!
