not really a like for like, but i use a CEP ankle support when my ankle is sore (mostly sleeping when run volume is high, having torn something in it a few years ago) but its light weight, light support so will still fit in shoes, their longer socks have quite a lot of ankle support built in too...

I actually think this is precisely what I want. Just a tad more protection and stability as I’m not doing slalom sprints or the likes.
Ordered one will feed back how I go. Why does everything give up when you’re almost 30?

SUUNTO Ambit3 Vertical Multisport GPS is on 61% discount at the moment with HRM - looking at the blurb looks like a nice running watch, as you can play your route , gives you elevation , % incline, stats, recovery time etc etc and i like the vibration alarms to control your effort/training/intervals etc etc...... for £199.99 is there anything similar?
no possibility of music on the watch though.......................................

Oddly i managed to get a tomtom spark + Music for £20 from an Argos clearance place. I've had issues with it as the headphones are fooked but for 20 notes it'll do. Not sure it has all those info bits but it does pace, records my runs and pushes 'em to strava. Sadly no HR though. I had a 2 garmin watchs (fr 15 and 920xt) previously. The fr15 was of similar specs as the tomtom but no music. The 920xt was fully loaded with all the info but i didnt really use any of that, and i killed it by accident too, so ive gone for cheap and cheerful.

Well done to everyone! Some cracking achievements over the year.
Highlight of the year is hard to pick. Main goal was Ennerdale Fell Race, for which I trained well but didn't taper properly and got a cold a week before, resulting in a slightly harrowing race. Getting round the 23 miles/7500' still felt like a milestone (despite having recce'd the full course a few weeks beforehand). And I feel like my running ability is a lot deeper now.
Stats wise, I was surprised to see that my total ascent was 47km (slightly annoying, if I'd paid more attention I'd definitely have aimed for 50km!) and total distance 802 miles/1291km. I had wanted 1000m total, but injury laid waste to that.Looking forward to 2019, I've thrown my hat into the ballot for Jura, which if successful will give three big races to work towards, and definitely keep me busy.
Isle of Jura Fell Race, 25th May, 28km/2370m
"The Isle of Jura Fell Race is a great classic and a graduation test in rough terrain, fitness and fell running technique, not to mention navigation. It is one of the toughest challenges in British hill races at this distance"The Tarsuinn Trail, 15th June, Isle of Arran, 26km/2000+m.
"A classic loop taking in some of the main ridgelines and traverses on Arran. The 26km with 2000m+ will take place during the early afternoon on Saturday 15th June and will include some the same technical elements of the main ultra race." It's fully marked/flagged and mostly on trail. No idea what the "technical elements" will be like (although not worried due to climbing experience).Wasdale Horseshoe Fell Race, 13th July, 34km/2750m.
Classic Lakes AL. Steeper and with more ascent than Ennerdale. Even just checking the number is making me nervous tbh!All the best to everyone for 2019. And with the race plan looking like it is, I better get going (I've not been for a run in 2019 yet!).

Best place in North or East to get a gait analysis or running analysis thing?

Awesome - I’m going to try out AM:PM RC today, they meet at 6:45 at the Walker Fountain in the Botanic Gardens if you’re interested.

Thanks for the heads up! Suunto have heavily discounted a lot of the range, and cheaper still at the likes of Wiggle. Just ordered a Spartan Sport Wrist HR. Not quite the battery life I was hoping for but ticks all the other boxes and way cheaper than Fenix - which I had almost convinced myself to shell out for.
I guess they're about to announce a load of new models and want to shift "old" stock.

^ also if ordering on Wiggle you can get an extra £10 off if you set up a new account and use the code NEWGB

Anyone wearing Saucony Echelon 6 Road shoes? Just saw them at Tkmaxx for £50.
I’ve got Saucony Peregrine 7s which I like a lo for muddy trail runs, so am after some road shoes with more padding..

Saucony Breakthru are comfy.

Any of you ladies and chaps have a problem drying/airing your trainers between runs? If mine don't dry quickly, they get minging fast.
Try a USB fan in each shoe. I bought one of these for my ski and climbing boots and have started using them on my running shoes. Well worth a tenner. They dry damp trainers in an hour or so, saturated ones in about four hours.

I seem to have been able to submit a solo entry to the National XC 2019 in Leeds via
https://www.race-results.co.uk/results/2019/natxc19e.php
Assuming this is ok in the rules* & I've not double booked myself I'll be there, probably on a team of 1 (Tri Club). Anyone else from here planning on being there?
*Previous years it has looked like I needed my club to commit to entering a team?

Reminds me I need to enter!

I should be there.

Training with the club last night, jfc. Plan was to do some hill reps on the local trails. I was keen to get warmed up so met another runner a bit earlier with the idea of doing a couple of extra warm-up miles into my legs rather than jump straight into the reps. Ended up doing about 9km on the trails then straight into the reps. Two reps in I’m dying and then I realised I’d only had a smoothie and a couple of crumpets all day and had to sneak back to the car to grab some gels and water.
Did some more reps and headed up the hill, following another runner, assuming it was the last rep only for them to turn around and head back down - and being the stupid sod I am, I followed. I think it’s the first time I’ve ever had to have a sit down mid hill rep!All in, about 19km and 1000m ascent - like doing a bloody lakes fell Race! On a bloody Tuesday, in the dark.

Seeing as this is the fitst year I'm going to try to train (sort of) intelligently I've just got myself a Training Peaks account, anyone else use one for running? Seems to be a lot of data and I have no idea what I'm looking at :)
That is some effort!!
