I know it depends what you need a home computer for, but maybe an iPad could work? It’s all I use at home now really.

Do it, as Chris says it should be super quick and easy, at least if you're installing a new system.
I'm not a fan of Tonymac either. In short the software's not great, it's not very transparent and if it works it's very easy but it often doesn't, then it's difficult to fix the mess. Hence all the frustrated people on their forum. I also know that their current installer has issues so I'd especially not recommend it right now.
I can also recommend Hackintosher because I personally used their method to make a Mojave install USB with preconfigured Mojave EFI folder and it worked well for me:
https://hackintosher.com/guides/how-to-make-a-macos-10-14-mojave-flash-drive-installer/When I get round to it I'm going to configure it properly for me, but if you want something to get you going quickly it's good.
The biggest problem for you might be that you need a Mac to make the Mojave installer, but happy to help with that if you need it.
You could build a hackintosh mini if you'd like something smaller...

Cool, thanks! I used Tonymacx86's site last time but he was the easiest resource to find - it made things very easy. Not sure if I can be bothered.. or if I should just install install Windows. Trying to convince my girlfriend that Windows 10 is great - I have no ties to macOS anymore. I have an iPhone but it's not reliant on my MacBook in any way whatsoever. Guess I could always just have multiple drives and multiple OS's...
