Does it have to be a Garmin? And is it a fixed route or can you pick your own?
I've just switched to a Wahoo Elemnt (bigger one) and I really like it for following a route, recording, battery life etc (Did a 200km ride over Christmas with HR, power meter and navigation and it still had 25% battery left after 9hrs elapsed time).
That said, it's not very good if you go off route or need to re-route as you can't scroll around the map. So for something like TCR where you may have made a mistake in and have to adapt your route on the fly, it's prob not so good.
Missus used hers for a 200k audax the other week and it seemed to work well enough and had maybe 50% left after 11hrs. I was doing the navigating on the 1030 which also worked and had maybe 35% left.
