I am pondering starting at Croydon and then taking the Wandle river path into town.
My experience of the path is that it is quite narrow at points, not enough to be hazardous but enough that you never really get any speed going, and have to slow down to walking pace for sections. Not an issue, just be prepared for it time-wise

Good call. If it is too sluggardly we can bail onto the roads easy enough.
Hopefully I'll get a chance to sketch out a route for this, over Christmas.
I am pondering starting at Croydon and then taking the Wandle river path into town, for a bit of a change, before hitting the North Circular later on (only joking).
We could also canal out to Wembley way, but that might be too slow after the Wandle section.
I am also going to make an executive decision that Tottenham Court Road is a SHAM-IKEA and will be omitted.
With that said, it may well be Croydon -> Wembley -> Tottenham -> Stratford -> Greenwich
Foot tunnel or ferry will be the North South river crossing of choice.
