I'm familiar only in that I motorbike around there a lot in the summer.

Lots of pretty villages and rolling hills... Not too far from Ashdown forest either.

There is a Waitrose and a few good cafes in Uckfield. So yes flat whites. Maresfield is a bit meh. @pastry_bot knows the area.
